Every time an Agoda customer checks out of a hotel we send them an email asking them to write a review of their stay. This is the only way reviews can be submitted. Every review must then be approved by our content team before being posted on the Agoda website. Therefore, unlike many other travel sites, ALL Agoda reviews are certified and genuine.

Nice bungalow in wonderful surroundings
friendly staff, view at tee plantations, nice food
6.3
The staff was attentive and friendly, the Sri Lankian food was excellent. The view on the surroundings with the tea plantations is nice and invites for wonderful walks in the whole area. Due to holidays our reservation did not arrive on time and the staff was not prepared to receive us (no bell at the gate). The carpets in the rooms are dirty, so choose one of the rooms with wooden floor. The location is a good place to visit the tea estates in this beautiful area.

Free dinner treat and classically furnished room
7.7
it took us 4 hours to reach there not to say we covered all the dark paths climbing up to the hill. we were so scared on the way as we can barely see any other cars on the way and we were also concerned about if the car can afford such tough roads. it was not in the city area and according to our driver, usually this is not a hotel on the popular list. however they did call us to confirm our booking and arrival time, which comforted us a lot. plus they offered free dinner treat since it was the christmas eve. when we arrived, i felt so relieved that we were neither robbed or raped...the room was really stunning since they are all classically furnished. it made me feel that i shall be a rich lord in the old time owning the entire mountain of tea trees and this house! the dinner was original excl service charge but we got it for free. can things be better? we stayed up until 3am in the living room with decorated christmas tree and an stove(of course not on fire given the temperature in sri lanka). the next morning, the breakfast was also well served. the staff were really hiding somewhere to observe u and make sure when would be a proper time to serve next course. it was creepy at the first but finally we got used to it. they have a nice backyard garden where they grow all the flowers they put in the rooms, we rent bikes for a ride before we left. oh before i forgot, they have great black tea!

We were not provided with the rooms we requested, there were no staff available other than the cooks (who spoke minimal English), no information on the area, rooms were not serviced and the manager promised to stop by twice and never did.

Nice enough bungalow, shame about the staff
Any positives outweighed by terrible staff
5.7
i had to check the photos to make sure i'm reviewing the same hotel as the other reviewers.
this is a decent enough property but until they sort out the staff i can only recommend avoiding it.
on arrival we were greeted with a cold towel and tray of tea, so far so good, but then we were left in the lobby for 20 mins until we tracked down the three boys looking after the place in the kitchen, and asked if we might be shown to our room. this set a precedent for the next two days of the staff not having any idea what to do, or even the idea that they should do something at all.
a few examples: they had no cold drinks because they had forgotten to put them in the fridge (i went to the kitchen and did it myself to make sure we had some the next day); they asked us what we wanted for dinner, then later decided they couldn't serve the whole meal because nobody had gone to the market during the day to buy ingredients. although that didn't stop them trying to charge us for the dishes they didn't serve... i could go on: our room wasn't tidied; we found the staff watching cricket in the guest lounge, etc. it's not as if they were too busy, there was only one other guest.
in fairness i should point out the manager did come, twice, when we had the staff call him (he is not usually at the bungalow) and was helpful getting stuff sorted out. as our experience seems at odds with the other reviews here, i can only assume there's normally a duty manager of some sort, somebody who actually knows how to run a hotel, and we had the misfortune to visit when he was away. but that's no excuse, the management of mandira really needs to put some proper staff in place here.
keep the chef though - when you finally get it, the food is indeed excellent.

Great Place but too far!!!
Huge rooms, personal service
7.3
the place was really difficult to find, but once we reached there it was great. the room was huge, amazing neat and clean. the staff was very friendly. they made food as per the request. they didn't have a menu. the food they prepared was delicious. they had a separate room dining area but since we were so tired they got the food in our room. mind you its not a hotel, its like a residence that belongs to some one and they give it out on rent and therefore happy to get the service in the room. wish had more time to stay there and explore

The Gingerbread house
Small and quiet place with great staff

3 nights at this place was very relaxing and nice. The food was excellent since few guests were served each night. We spent the christmas holiday there and when we drove up our 4 year old daughter said she was going to sleep in a gingerbread house.....

Exquisite Small Place with Beautiful Grounds
Personalized Services in a Quiet Surrounding
9.7
Due to some internal reason, they put me in Strathdon Bungalow instead. On the road from Colombo to Hatton, the sign Strathdon Estate and Strathdon Bungalow were quite easy to find.
Upon arrival, someone gave me a nice tea tray. The house has an old feeling as it was built in early 1900s, however, it has all the modern comforts and conveniences. I was lucky to be given a corner room with several windows overlooking a nice garden with green hills view. Other rooms look nice, too, but the corner room was more spacious with the best fresh air and sunshine.
The manager asked for my meals details as they cooked all meals based on each guest preferences. Love all the personalized meals. Srilankan dishes were not too spicy hot as it was customized to my taste.
All in all, it was a excellent place to stay to have a nice quiet rest with plenty of fresh mountain air.
