Unique stay in the jungle.

Unusual accommodation, felt like upmarket camping in the middle of the Sri lankan jungle.

Fabulous tree house setting in the middle of the jungle. Beautifully quite location akin to camping in the wilderness. Rooms were spacious but do not have ac although we did not find this to be a problem in June as a fan is supplied. We ate on site each night and found it to be a great way to try a variety of Sri lankan food that we would not normally have ordered from a menu. Some we liked and some we didnt but you oculd not fault the cook. You just state chicken or fish or vegetarian and the cook brings you a selection of different prepared vegetables and a dish of curry. I think you may be able to ask for western food but we we happy to try new things. We paid about £6 per night per person here for food Only negative was that the bathroom could have been a littler cleaner but this did not detract from our stay. Stairs up to treehouse are quite steep but cook takes bags up for you.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip: Fabulous pool at Sygriya hotel which you can use for rupees a day. Tuk tuk costs 150 to there and owner will arrange for one to come and bring you back. Don't bother with a car and driver, tuk tuk to rock is 250 rupees. We saved a fortune by going alone and found it very easy to get about by booking taxis and tuk tusk from each hotel.

We had only 2 nights but was very nice, good food, but room very basic, could be much better for the price a little over price for Sri Lanka. And needs to be more clean ! But you have to do it once in you life ...

Cute place to stay before climbing Sigiriya

The frogs

This place is really cute with views of Sigiriya and the peak opposite it. The dogs woke me a few times fighting but the frogs in the bathroom made it ok. So cute. This place really is in the jungle.
Travel tip: Don't stay here unless you love nature

Very different and nice experience

Great locale and setting.
8.7
great stay. the cottages are built on wooden stilts and gives the experience of living in the forest. the facilities are basic but that is what was mentioned right in the beginning. pls remember there is no internet in this area. the place serves very delicious breakfast which is a part of the package. even the dinner that we had at their place every day was very delicious and varied. service is good but language is a slight problem. for someone who has not lived in a log house, this is a good and different experience though expensive.
Travel tip: If u have transport, consider going out for dinner to some of the other hotels in the area as that would be cheaper DONT TAKE THE ROOM ADJACENT TO THE RESTAURANT. THIS IS NOT A LOG CABIN AND AFTER PAYING FOR THE AMOUNT YOU DO, THIS IS NOT WHAT YOU WERE LOOKING FOR

Amazing Jungle Hut with View of Sigiriya Rock

Location, Food and General Ambience

amazing place. best hotel in sri lanka during our stay. the huts, although very hot in the day, were comfortable and clean. the food (breakfast, lunch and dinner)was cooked freshly by the staff who although couldnt speak great english were very helpful and friendly. sigiriya rock could be seen from our hut and the dining room. the hotel was a rupee tuk tuk ride from the bus stop in sigiriya and really made you realise how isolated and peaceful the location was. staff organised trips and taxis for you.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip: Go to Sigiriya Rock in the early morning or evening as it gets very hot!

Amazing place to stay in the forest

Wonderful food, beautiful relaxing location

Thick Forest has 4 basic but comfortable treehouses right in the forest near Sigiriya. I loved waking up to the sounds of birds and having great views of Sigiriya and Pidurangula Rocks. The food was amazing, all local cooking by 2 ladies from the nearby village. I would thoroughly recommend Thick Jungle.

Friendly hotelier and Rustic Feel

Good Home Cooked Food
7.3
I stayed 4 nights. The first night I stayed in a traditional chalet (double room for a single person). This was good and as expected. I was then moved to another room next to the dining area as another couple needed my room. The second room was ok but did not really have the rustic feel of the original chalet. In retrospect, having stayed 3 weeks in Sri Lanka I think the price of 50 GBP (including taxes)per night was excessive (30 to 40 GBP (including taxes) would have been more appropriate. Perhaps there is a slight increase as this is Sigiriya (one of the most popular tourist sites)? The good side of the visit as suggested above is that the hotelier Kemal is very friendly and was full of information on local excursions.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip: Be aware that to go up to the top of Sigiriya rock is expensive 30 USD (3600 Rupees currently). Again I believe that this is twice what the actual experince is worth. I was more than slightly affronted at such a large cost- basically the experience is all about scaling the 1800 odd steps and the tourist I'm afraid is being milked!! I understand the Pollanaurru (sic) temple area was about the same cost as Sigiriya rock. I would recommend a visit to the Elephant Eco park.

the best hotel we have been in sl. the manager is a really nice guy and manager everything you want (elefant ride) aks him and don't do it by your own - it's cheaper when you ask him the hotel is really small (only 5 houses) but it's amazing!!! and the food is great! it's little bit hard to find but the location in the jungle was somrthing really special!

Unique Tree House Style in the Jungle w Nice Rooms

View, Unique experience, Service, Food
7.7
Near Sigiriya Rock, but you'll need a vehicle to get around. This small hotel has 6 Rooms and all are tree top style. All rooms have excellent views of the Rock and the surrounding Jungle. The rooms are small but comfortable, No AC, the bathrooms are rather nice for a tree top cabin. The service was good. The food that was included in our breakfast was good. What sets this place apart is the unique experience you get with the wooden tree top cabins. If you are not into that then, this is not the place for you.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip: Sigiriya rock is a must visit. However they do Charge and arm and leg for tourist now. I think locals pay .50$ and the tourist need to fork up $20pp.

Basic but lovely situation with great view

Secluded, close to Nature, birds etc
7.3
very nice and helpful manager and staff. lovely natural surroundings, bee catcher birds within 2m, the odd scorpion in bathroom that was rapidly implored to move elsewhere by manager. a bit on the expensive side but justified by the uniqueness of the lodgings. outside world accessible vie internet on managers computer with 3g connection which he readily lets one use so our daughter could update all her friends on facebook/skype. highly recommend if you want to get off the beaten track
