A gem.
The staff. The food and the comfort.

Tuk tuk from Galle to hotel, about 15 mins. 1500 SLR Lankan rupees. Taxi back from hotel 2000 SLR. Feels safer. !! Staff were great. Food was great. Bed was great. Pool is compact,but so relaxing. Will be back. Did I say the staff are great. !!! :)

Worth the money! This hotel is very charming, clean and has a beautyfull garden (with wild monkeys). The rooms a vey nice with a good view over the garden and pool. The rooms has outdoor showers as well.

Fantastic hideaway

We booked Thambapanni on Agoda the night before our stay, and got a flash deal 62% off the rack rate.
It is set back from the beach in a quiet street, only a short walk by the shops and restaurants to the gorgeous Unawatuna beach.
We've stayed on the beach before and it can be a nightmare with noisy bars and banging music coming at you from all sides. So this was really a welcome retreat, only a few minutes from the action.
We stayed in a deluxe room with a balcony overlooking the small pool. The room was huge, 13m long, with a lovely 4 poster bed, antique furniture, all in dark wood and great air conditioning.
The bathroom was a bit odd, a rustic bath and a weak shower, but ok.
There was a constant stream of ants in the corner of the bathroom wall, but they were busy going about their business and didn't disturb us at all. There are birds nesting in a lot of the light shades on the balcony and around the outside of the hotel. It is a very natural setting and to be expected. They also seem to be prone to short power cuts, so keep a torch handy.....
The staff was so welcoming and friendly, and the room was cleaned and made up every day.
We loved this place and wished we could have stayed longer. Unawatuna itself is a great place with plenty of bars and restaurants, and a fantastic beach.
Overall Thambapanni is in a lovely serene setting, tastefully decorated in a colonial style and well maintained. The staff is extremely attentive without being in your face, and I would thoroughly recommend it.

The room was pretty, comfortable and clean. The hotel is in a good location, walking distance to beach and the shops along the road behind beach. As a solo traveler in off peak season prepare to meet no one and be lonely. Only couples and families come here.

Stayed at Thambapanni Retreat for 2 nights. We had room 4 which was lovely. Modern and bright with a balcony. The room and bathroom were very clean. Staff always smiled and said hello whenever you walked past any of them - really makes a difference. Breakfast was also good with lots of choice. Definitely recommended!
