Was only in Kaoushiung for one night, but hotel was very nice. Although this hotel is more for the romantic couple, and I came with a group of sessaurauses. Although this was our fault for not looking at the hotel page thoroughly. A good number of bars and clubs in the vicinity. Breakfast was very tasty.

Great hotel for the money

We stayed at the R&R for 2 nights in April of 2013 and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The staff was friendly and helpful, providing assistance with everything from cabs to directions. Complimentary breakfast, also prepared by the small friendly staff, was also offered. We were served the Western option and were pleasantly surprised. The beautifully plated full breakfast came with sausage, bacon, eggs, fresh baked bread (we saw the whole loaves in the back still had the bread maker shape), fresh fruit, tomatos, custard with fruit syrup, corn chowder, and a selection of tea and coffee -- it was one of the best Western breakfasts we've found in Taiwan hotels. The decor of the hotel was sort of a romantic nautical theme and was sort of quirky kitch and fun. The rooms were large and thoughtfully appointed, with VERY comfortable bedding, a small sofa, a flat screen TV, and a wardrobe. The bathroom was also a highlight with a huge walk in shower, rainshower head, and good water pressure. The only oddity was that the windows were covered over with copper-tinted reflective film so it was impossible to see out. However, considering that the windows wouldn't have offered much of a view, provided a nice dark room for the late sleeper, and went well with the nautical theme, it wasn't really a big drawback. Also, while free wifi is available, it isn't really fast enough for serious use.

Better than anticipated, friendly staff, check-in and check-out was a breeze. Will definitely want to stay there again. Breakfast was a set but pretty good.

Good Service and Good Location

The hotel owner puts the heart into doing things. The wooden furniture is designed by himself. I like the wood texture, it is more than one inch thick, real wood. The arms of the sofa is designed so that one can use it for table top or for sitting. Since, there are so many large and clean cushions, I put two behind my back in the sofa and I can sit very comfortably.
The double bed room is large enough to do Tai Chi exercise.
Another beauty is the floor. There is no carpet. This can avoid a lot of dirts smell and sometimes bugs.
As for the breakfast. It is prepared only when you are arrived
so it is fresh and warm. They come in Western/ Chinese style to choose from.
Oh yes another beauty of must mention. There is WiFi in the room as well as in the lobby. And it is free. This is very handy indeed with so many people using smart phones nowadays. In addition there is also a computer room on the 7th floor. There are 3 computers there and are free to use.
All and all I find the stay very satisfactory and I am sure to book it again next time.

The hotel is not near the metro and it can be inconvenient if you do not have your own car. However the are lots of restaurant and a small night market nearby. The staff are very friendly and the place is very clean.
Restaurant Tip:
There is a small Japanese restaurant at the corner on the left as you come out of the hotel. The food is very fresh, the boss friendly and you get value for money.
