The hotel is at a very good location that's convenient to get to most desired places in the city. The hotel itself, although 5 stars, is older than others... So the room was very plain and simple without much design. The housekeeping is good. Room service was decent. My kid had a blast in the kids play room (free), and the gym looks good although we didn't use it (but the pool is not heated). Overall we had a decent stay. With the discounted price we really can't complain.

In Taichung, most of the hotels are quite old. The Evergreen Laurel Hotel Taichung has a moderate maintenance. I like they have a pool in the baseman. The services are reasonable good.

we paid extra for a room on the executive floor. not sure what this meant but our room was very spacious and had a king-sized bed.
the bed was firm (not too hard) and we found it to be very comfortable.
the gym facilities were adequate.
the location is in the middle of nowhere. you can either connect a train from the thsr station to taichung, then cab it to the hotel, or get a cab directly from the thsr to the hotel.
taichung seems to love their pineapple cakes. there are stalls selling it everywhere.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip:
There doesn't seem to be much to do in Taichung itself. I would hazard that most travellers stay in Taichung to connect to Hualien or Sun Moon Lake.

A hotel of the old school.
Comfortable, staff speak excellent English and were very helpful.

This is a very busy hotel. One auspicious day they had 5 weddings ongoing, which put some significant stress on the breakfast and dinner venue. We elected to get up early for a leisurely breakfast rather than face the crowds.
Room large and comfortable. Saw complaints in reviews about "old fashioned" bathroom, but it looked fine to me. Staff were exceptional.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip:
There is a bus right outside the hotel which brings you to the main station and thus the MRT. Do take the opportunity to walk the "Art Walk" between the art museum and the museum of natural history and science. It has lovely trees and is a very pleasant walk. While at the natural history museum (worth 2 days), stop by to the botanical gardens.

The room itself should be the same as a 'twin room' but with 2 more set of accessories (towels, toothbrush, water etc).
Room itself is nice and big.

We had to wait in the line for break first so just given up. They said sorry and that's it...
And for Agoda, your service people helped us switch 2night package to 1night, but she did not tell us that the fee is much higher. We have no choice but accepted.
And where is receipt(5% tax included according to Taiwan's law)?
