American Bar
Uninformed Concierges
No Late checkout
I decided to stay at the Grand Hyatt since I had points. It was a bit pricey,
but the Riviera was booked as was the Weston. Upon checking in I asked for
the location (ideally walking distance) of an authentic Chinese restaurant. I
also asked for the location of a cigar bar. The reply to the latter was the
Westin, which used to have a nice Cigar bar, Churchill's, where you could
relax with a good cigar and listen to some live Jazz. But as I had found out
earlier in the trip, Churchill's was now smoke free with the exception of a
small brightly lit and stale smelling side room commandeered by a string of
youngsters whose taste in background music did not exactly match the "Cigar
aesthetic". The former request was met with a card on which one of a chain of
restaurants was highlighted. This did not seem to me to be "Authentic" and I
mentioned this to the Concierge, but I was assured it was so. Before I left,
I took a peek in at "Cheers", the Hyatt restaurant in the lobby, also highly
recommended by the hotell staff. My nose had wrinkled at the mention since I
had had the privilege, a long time ago, and very far away, of being one of
the satellite regulars to the original cheers regulars at the bar on Beacon
Hill in Boston. That "Cheers" had not met with a happy end. This "Cheers" was
crowded with over-weight Americans sitting at the bar, staring sulkily in to
their glasses of iced hard liquor with Barry White music growling in the
background. I popped out and hired a cab to the recommended Chinese place.
A short cab drive later (I was also assured it was not walking distance) I
arrived at one of those nouveau hip places frequented by young professionals
with more money than taste to spare -- a catagory I occupied in my earlier
days. The menu was simple and contained a few faux Chinese dishes of the type
that impressed me years ago - tall food with colorful patterns of syrup
surrounding it. I was pretty sure that the entire wait staff, should their
ages be accumulated,
Restaurant Tip : Don't follow the concierge reccomendation for authentic chinese.

Large lobby and very spacious
My first stay at this hotel, breakfast was good and the staff were very helpful. Only stayed one night so didn't get to use all the facilities but the pool looked good for lounging around in

Very near to 101 - where many nice restaurants are.
Far from high speed rail station, I use HSR a lot. Also the internet connection rates are very expensive ...
There are many very nice things I like about this hotel. The service staff are excellent, and the rooms are huge and give you a luxurious feeling. The bed is cosy (in several other hotels i stayed before, the sheets smell heavily of cleansing chemicals!). The café at the ground floor serves a very wide variety of food, often makes me look forward to a very nice breakfast before I set off to work.

Beautiful front entrance and attentive staff. good location.
Fairly expensive and a little run down.
Had a good stay at this hotel, which is located very conveniently in Taipei next to Taipei 101. Found the hotel to be adequate and the staff attentive. The hotel seems to be a little run down though and fairly expensive - particularly the business centre. However, would stay here again and would recommend to others.

Location, Service, Comfort
usually price, but the Agoda price was quite good
I usually stay at the Grand Hyatt and just started booking through Agoda as it provides a very good rate. Love this hotel, rooms are big, linens are good, restaurants are very good, only drawback is it can be a bit expensive. very nice is the proximity to Taipei 101 for shopping and for restaurants.
Shopping Tip : Taipei 101, great shopping

big rooms, wireless internet works in all areas of the hotel, the airport bus stops right at the hotel
Restaurants / coffee shop are expensive
Stayed here during a trade show held at the convention center, which is right behind the hotel. Very convenient. The hotel is nice, clean rooms. The workout facility is well equipped with treadmills, weights and exercise balls. I didn't eat at the hotel restaurants, instead I went next door to the T101 building. There are lots of restaurants on the 4th floor, and there is a food court and grocery store in the basement. Great place to stock up on snacks/breakfast items for the room.
Shopping Tip : The Eslite bookstore flagship store is a block away. 6 floors of books, clothes, housewares, stationary and food.

I would consider other hotels if I knew the electricity was going to be suspended during my stay. Other than that, it's a great hotel.

There is many a bar nearby. 101 saw the room.
I feel so small and low-ceilinged room.
Situation can only use taxis, so I'm away from the center of the city. I have a long way to MRT station. Atmosphere of the hotel is good, the room is still I think four stars.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : Distant station.
