A good "weekender" hotel
A really comfortable bed, a good view of Taipei 101 and a nice little terrace to have breakfast on.

this was a good hotel to stay in and generally the staff were very friendly.
the superior room was spacious with a good view of taipei 101. there were a few power points, but only 1 complete with the international adaptor. the in-room wifi worked very well. the hotel's website offered a free mini-bar, but it was actually empty, so that was pointless.
the breakfast was adequate, but needed more fresh fruit and, although it wasn't obvious, you could ask for eggs to be made to order.
as for the fitness room, that consisted of a cross trainer and a multi-gym. unfortunately, the room also doubled as a smoking room for the staff.
we took taxis most of the time and one was always available, thanks to the bar next door. we wouldn't recommend the bar at night though unless sleazy is your thing.
overall, this was a good hotel to stay in for a few days.

The hotel is quite ok. nothing outstanding but then what do we need - a comfortable bed, a clean toilet, efficient service and a decent breakfast. I would not say it's my favourite hotel, but I already booked it 2 times and I will go back.
Restaurant Tip:
500 metres away from night market - great food and lively athmosphere.

I was on business trip.. meeting at Shangri-La in Taipei, as it is too expensive, HD is the nearest hotel around, which offer the most compeititve price..
Their Suite wasn't really live up to its name.. not very big, only its TV is big..
They have only one lif & their main entrance (ground floor) is a lif, u need to go to the first floor for the receptionist.. quite troublesome & it is the only lif sharing the 7 floors..
But the hotel staffs are friendly, & the whole hotel is clean.. though a safe choice, will try other hotels around if needed to find one in this area in future..

Just 100 meters from the ShangriLa Far Eastern Hotel, this boutique hotel is in an upscale neighbourhood of tree-lined streets, about a ten minute, $3 taxi ride to central station or to the Taipei 101 tower. The area has many pleasant European style restaurants and the HD Palace has a good sports bar restaurant on the street level (Carnegie's) frequented by foreigners. A Starbucks and a 7/11 are around the corner. Its a ten minute walk from the subway system, so a taxi is recommended in hot weather- they are clean and inexpensive, but have the hotel write your destination in Chinese since many drivers dont understand English. The hotel itself is a boutique hotel like in Paris, with reception and breakfast area on the second floor. Staff were friendly and helpful, and spoke English. The rooms are large for Taipei, with great beds, big screen TVs, large windows (I had a view of Taipei 101 Tower) and very large, clean, bright and modern bathrooms. The breakfast was quite OK- with a selection of Western food and coffees, and you have the option of sitting out on the very pleasant deck. This hotel is great value for money and is highly recommended.
Shopping Tip:
There is an upsale boutique mall (The Mall) next to the ShangriLa hotel one block away (look for the fountain). The basement level has a wonderful upscale supermarket and food court.
