This is my favorite Hotel in Taipei.
It is in top condition and the staff is excellent. The restaurants are good and the breakfast has something for all tastes.
The location cannot be beat with easy access to the Sub Way and Bus Line.
In my opinion this is a superior Hotel to some of the nearby more expensive and famous hotels.

I can't really fault the Hotel Royal Taipei. We've had a superb 5 nights here and it's been lovely.
Service from all the staff was friendly and courteous.
Concierge staff were some of the most helpful I've encountered.
Hotel (rooms and public areas) is spotless and well maintained.
Premium room had a good size walk-in shower as well as a bath (I hate the showers in the bath with a shower curtain!).
Bed and linen very comfortable.
The air-conditioning in the room is the quietest I've experienced and is very good.
The Royal Bakery has lovely cakes and chocolates!
Free Wi-Fi throughout the hotel.
Very large room safes.
We didn't get around to using them, but it has 2 restaurants and a rooftop pool. We didn't have the breakfast as there are so many options in the area.
My only complaint is that it didn't have a proper bar area, just a few sofa chairs in between the restaurants. This area was insufficient and full both times we went there. It didn't look like a bar area and had no signs to indicate it was.

The rooms were large and comfortable. The bathroom was big as well. The hotel is a short 3min walk to Zhongshan MRT on the red line (1 stop away from Taipei main station). The location of the hotel is definitely good, and the surroundings are not messy while it is bustling with shops.
There were many Japanese staying at the hotel when I was there (probably because this hotel is part of the Nikko Hotel chain?). Noted that most of the staff knew how to converse in Japanese.
The staff were attentive and the level of service was what you would expect from a 5 stars hotel. Do try the cakes from the hotel bakery - the macadamia cake and cheesecake were delicious! I will return to this hotel if I visit Taipei again!

I booked a superior room for 1 night under a different booking followed by this booking 2 nights later. Staff asked me if I wanted an upgrade from superior room at a cost. Given that I am committed to stay in the hotel under the second booking, a complimentary upgrade will be a nice gesture. Room lacked complimentary English tea selection. TV could be larger. Staff are helpful and friendly, in line with classic Japanese hospitality. This was one reason we chose this hotel.

The location is very convenient, right next to the department stores and mrt station. There are many modern facilities. staff are very attentive. The bakery shop has a reputation. Since it is a hotel catering Japanese particularly, there are the times that communication is bit inconvenient with non english speaking stuff.
