Large room at a reasonable price
Room size, price and convenient location
I booked a room for 3 nights and I was pleasantly surprised by how large it was for central Taipei. This hotel offers superior value in its price range. Obviously one cannot expect the Ritz Carlton but the hotel had everything I needed, including a laundry room, a very small gym, and breakfast. The room had both cable and wireless Internet access. The wireless hotspots in the room were patchy so one needs to walk around the room to discover the spot with the strongest connection. The cable connection was fast. My booking included breakfast but the food choices were uninspiring. I liked the corn flakes and milk. Boiled eggs were available but somewhat rubbery. The bread was fresh and I was happy to see Nutella offered as one of the spreads. Chinese style noodle dishes were available. Although the room was big it felt humid. I remember someone saying a dehumidifier was available but I did not ask for one during my stay. The people at the front desk were fast and efficient.

This hotel is a lot better than reviews make out
Central location, price
The hotel is centrally located on Fuxing North Road near to the MRT and within a 20 min walk of the main shopping areas and nightlife areas. It's not that difficult to find and the taxi driver dropped me there directly from the airport. Check in was smooth, the staff spoke good English and whilst not offering the level of service of somehwere like a Shangri La or Hyatt, they were pleasent enough and friendly and that is what should be expected from a low-cost option like this. The room was quite large and the only bad thing I can say about it is there was no guest book / amenity guide, so it took me a while to figure out the wifi access and I got a password from reception. After that, I had pretty much fast wifi access for the duration of my stay with no real access problem. The TV has a wide selection of channels (all analogue cable) which includes some English-language channels and some Japanese-language channels. Next to the TV was a drinking water fountain, which was useful as tap water is not drinkable in Taiwan. The bathroom was basic, but huge. I read other comments about the hot water taking a long time to come out, or it being non-existant or even that it was too hot. I think that the control may be a bit difficult to use for regulating the heat, but once you've spent a couple of minutes working it out, it's quite easy to get hot water at the temperature you want for the duration of your stay. I had no problems with it. I did not have the free breakfast as I'd read reviews about it not being good and, as I really do not like food in Taiwan and as most people who visit Taiwan tend to rave about it, I thought it would be best to miss, so went to the Subway down the road instead. I actually live in Taipei (expat resident, not Taiwanese) and stayed here as I was on my way back from Japan and moving to a new place. However, if I ever have the need to use a hotel in Taipei again, I will most definitely stay here.

the room is big and clean
it's not to far from the shopping street. there is a bar right next to the hotel, we can find food and drink easily.

Budget business hotel or family. Convenient.
Easy access from subway. Lot of restaurant nearby.
Hotel is near the subway (zhongzhan jr high school station, brown line if I remember correctly). Lot of restaurants in the street from subway to hotel. Easy check in - we were upgraded from a double room to a suite, which was nice. Overall, the room gave an impression of being a bit "old", but cleanliness ok (if not perfect). Patient staff, but not overly knowledgeable of their own premises (I phoned the reception 4 times before a senior lady picked up and told me that wireless was not working in our room - so if I couldn't get it was not the password problem nor my computer problem. That said, they got me a cable, and a guy that came to show me where to plug it in as I couldn't manage to find it myself - to my defense, when the guy on the phone said "look above the desk", I didn't think of looking at the ceiling, where the plug was). Breakfast is ok - little variety and unfortunately, no fruits. That said, considering the reduced price, we were not expecting much and got overall more than what we expected.
