The location of this hotel is between 2 MRT stations (Ximen - 7 mins walk and Taipei main station - 12 mins). It close to the Ximen (or shimen) night markets and there is many food places to eat there. Finding the hotel was abit difficult as hotel name is not in english and the entry is not on the main street, its around the corner facing the car park. Room/bathroom looked like it was in original 1970's condition and the bed was very hard. The business suite only comes with one queen bed but the view from the room is better, view from other side looks onto brick wall. Breakfast was Asian style and same food for 5 days straight. Given the price we paid and its location, we would stay here again.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip:
Ximen (shimen) nights markets 7 mins walk away. You can also go to any tourist spots from Taipei main station

.Good location (This hotel is located near WEST GATE STATION. Around this station, There are many shops for young people.)

If you travel Taiwan only for sightseeing, This hotel is good for just sleep. But you wanna enjoy Hotel life in Taiwan also, I recommend other hotel.

Shopping Tip:
Near this hotel, there is famous shopping town for young people. It will take 7 minutes on foot.

cheap but don't expected too much

lobby has been renovated, and more varity of food for the breakfast when compared to last time we stayed in Nov 2009. the hotel is located in between Ximending and Taipei station, it's just distance for shops and metro. but the room is not very well furnished, there's no wardrobe in our room and size is just fit. it'a a good choice for the budget traveller.

Lilai hotel is very extremely value for money. She is affordable and has great location. Just a mere 7 minutes walk from Ximen station. 5 mins walk away from 7-11. Just a mere 10 minutes walk you would be in the Ximen shopping area with cinemas, shopping & lots of food. The building Wan Nian offers a place for great clothes/fashion & cheap food. Especially the Pork Rib rice it;s only 60NT!!! Very yummy must try! The watches collection is impeccable!
The hotel guest room has old basic interiors but has free wi-fi. I have no complains despite the old interiors and extremely slow lifts. The breakfast buffet selection is the worst I have seen in the hotel I have stayed in. I guess one can't complain as Lilai offers such a good price despite in this location. I will definitely stay in Lilai again!
Shopping Tip:
Ximending is fantastic area to stay. Food & shopping are of abundance here!

they have elegant chic lobby but don't believe you will get the same room type. the hotel is at least 50 years old and everything in the room is old old old! please renovate your room! cleaniness is acceptable but what would you expect when you enter an antique room? location is acceptable but it's definitely takes you almost 10 mins to walk to MRT station. you can find better location such as 'Rainbow hotel'.

Will not ever stay at the hotel again. Room was huge but very run down! shower door spoiled, blinds in toilet spoiled so better not change in the toilet or risk exposing. Bed was very hard, could not sleep well. Pillow was very flat too. Corners of the room eg. bedside table filled woth dust. They didnt make the effort to clean the room thoroughly. there are definitely much better hotels around. Breakfast variety was based on number of ple staying at hotel

Lilai renovated - Good budget option
Location - between Taipei Main Station and Ximen
Price - affordable and great value. not that many of those around (check Hope Hotel and City Inn for similar price range).
Staff - the new English speaking staff seems professional and helpful.

I've known Lilai Hotel for the last 5 years. It was once a cheap love hotel for hourly stays but now that it's been renovated and rebranded it's much nicer. The service counter now has English speaking personnel, there's Internet in all floors, a normal breakfast is included on the roof top and even the rooms look and smell better. Prices have gone up, but it's still much cheaper than the surrounding options.
Note - booking this hotel online through Agoda is much cheaper than just walking in. Weekends are busy, book in advance.
