Bangkok
Bangkok never fails to amaze and captivate its visitors with astounding sights, sounds and smells that can be overwhelming, especially for first-timers. Yet, millions of tourists flock to the city to experience this sensory-overload year after year. And more often than not, they will tell you that Bangkok is an addictive city that will keep you coming back for more.
Sure, this ‘city of angels’ can be a little bit smelly and noisy at times, as most metropolises are. However, the lure of Bangkok lies in its ability to offer a one-of-a-kind experience not found anywhere else, where tradition fuses with the ever-changing façade of an urbanized city.
It is only here, that you will find countless street stalls complete with plastic chairs and sticky aluminum tables along side multi-million Baht Michelin-rated restaurants. Or a rattling three-wheeled Tuk-Tuk stuck in a traffic jam next to abrand-new streamlined Ferrari California.
And it is also here that you will discover peaceful spots along the lazy flow of the Chao Phraya River, or the quiet sanctuary of a glittering temple such as Wat Phra Kaew, all the while being only a few steps away from the bustle of hawkers selling anything and everything under the sun.
For the shopping enthusiasts, endless shopping sprees await at countless mega department stores located downtown, while hundreds of chic boutiques and privately owned stores along the fashionable streets of Thonglor and Sukhumvit are open from sunrise to sunset.
Those visiting on business can settle in the areas around Silom, Bangrak, Pinklao, and Sathon districts, also known as the city’s central business districts, where one is only a minute or two away from Embassies, business headquarters, and countless financial institutions.
No matter which Bangkok hotel you choose to base yourself in, thanks to the city’s extensive and convenient sky train (BTS) and subway (MRT) systems, many of the wonders of Bangkok are at arms reach and quickly accessible.
