Not too impressed with this hotel, if you want to stay centrally in Bangkok there are a lot of much better options. The room was comfortable and clean, however the room type we booked was only available on a smoking floor which is quite unpleasant for a non-smoker. If we had wanted to change we would have had to have twin beds which we were not prepared to do. Very expensive breakfast which wasn't included in the room rate and all the restaurants and bars in the hotel were very expensive.

The location for shopping is excellent and if you are travelling on your own and want to be in a good location then this is great. The Bakery is a great spot to have a light meal at night instead of going out. It is great to pick up a sandwich and some beautiful chocolates and head up the the room with a beautiful kingsize bed, Large flat screen TV and dvd player and look out on the city of Bangkok after a hard day of shopping!

We stayed there last year and was given a room below the floor they were renovating and so had a very noisy stay. I complained, but not in view of getting any kind of discount but to just let them know we were less than satisfied. The duty manageress was very nice and said she would look after us on our next visit. True to her word we were given an upgrade and as our flight was not until midnight the next day she let us keep the room until we left instead of the 2 pm checkout. Top marks to the Watergate!

She loved the proximity to the big shopping centres.

• Nightlife Tip : Don't play up - that's what I told her! I don't know if she took my advice but she is home with some great memories of Bangkok
