Our stay at Anantara was great. The restaurants are really expensive and the spa is just ridiculously expensive. Paying almost 5,000 THB for a massage, which is one of the cheapest options is European price. Go to any other smaller spa in Bangkok and the price should be between 1,000-1,500 THB. Hotel is very beautifully located on the banks of Chao Priya. The shuttle boat that goes every 30 mins, is great but it should run like e.g. Intercontinentals which runs every 10 mins. Good for a relaxing break but far away from the 'fun in Bangkok'.

We paid extra for a special package of daily complimentary items, including breakfast, wi-fi, internet access, afternoon tea, happy hour, laundry (four items per person), and free beverages all day. The cost was reasonable, about $37, and the service was exceptional. The room was very comfortable. Robes, slippers, and bottled water were provided each day. The room even included complimentary shoe polishing. My shoes were dirty from a visit to the elephant camp, so this service was greatly appreciated. The two nights and three days we spent on our own at this hotel followed a 16 day group tour with 37 people. So this was a relaxing way to end our vacation.

Our stay was perfect. All staff were very helpful and friendly. We would definitely recommend their dinner cruise boat, which takes you down the river for 2 hours. The food, views and atmosphere are unbeatable.

The Anantara Riverside, previously the Marriott, is a self-contained oasis away from the noise and buzzle of the city. It's a bit out of theway (1.5 hours from the airport). Unfortunately they have decided to tear down the little shopping center, previously integrated with the hotel. This giant construction site at the entrance once housed coffee shops, restaurants, massage places and shops. Now the only option is to use the facilities within the hotel: less choice and more expensive. The hotel is on a busy road and there is nothing else in the neighborhood to walk to. On the other hand, a free boat shuttle connects you with the rest of Bangkok. If you need just a place to relax and are prepared to stay put, this may be the right stop for you.
