Luxurious hotel yet a bit old fashioned

Heard Banyan Tree is an international luxurious hotel and so i tired one night at Banyan Tree Hotel in my 5-day trip to Bangkok. It was, as expected, luxurious and grand; however, the ceiling of the lobby was a bit low and if it would be better if the ceiling is higher. The lighting was a bit dim and my girlfriend and I like brighter interior. The welcoming drink was quite good and the customer service was as good as other 5-star hotel.
One of the most attractive things was my free use of lounge and business centre. Light meals were provided in the lounge and I loved that.
The room was very nice and the tub was bigger than other 5-star hotel; their toiletries really outscored other competitors.
However, the POOREST thing was that the wifi network is charged. It took 18BHT per minute and i was upset as i had free wifi access in my previous 4-star hotel. This is absolutely intolerable! (Although i know it's common in other 5-star hotels.)
Yet the location was not very good. For tourists, if you do not go by taxi, it takes 15 mins to walk to the BTS station and there are nothing to see but residential buildings on the way.
The View of the restaurant where we had our complimentary breakfast was great; it was on 59/F and we had a bird view of the city. However, the range of food was limited and we were a bit disappointed.
Restaurant Tip:
Stalls in the street are always nicer than those suggested on guidebook. Usually the suggestions sucked and were 2-3 times more expensive. The Tong Yam Goong in a small stall was the best and cheapest in my whop trip.

Luxury and value!

we stayed at the bangkok banyan tree over new year's eve. there were a couple small problems, but even one that couldn't be remedied was handled with such attention and courtesy that we ended up not minding much. the staff is very attentive, the rooms and pool are are very nice, and the vertigo restaurant has incredible views (with very high prices to match). we found this hotel to be a very good value.
only complaint is that breakfast was very crowded (as we were there at a busy time) and some items were not replenished promptly.
we didn't try the spa (prices are very high). the gym is quite nice.

We stayed one night at the Banyan just to say farewell Thailand. The staff are very polite and efficient, and having a drink at Vertigo is worth the try. However, this Banyan looks a bit on the worn out side compared to others from the same brand. The restaurants are very expensive and the food is not up to what you may expect from a Banyan hotel.
Hotel Feature Tip:
Skip the restaurants and go for the sun set at Vertigo.

Great and relaxing hotel

great hotel to escape the hustle and bustle of bangkok. we had a great stay.
the only downside was when we entered our room it hadn't been cleaned and there was another person's luggage and belongings still there. the staff was apologetic and quickly got us keys to another room down the hall.
the pool and the rooftop bar / restaurant are both great.

our stay was short, just 3days 2 nights but it was the best 3days! we felt really welcome and the hotel staffs were so friendly and hospitable. the rooms were big and comfortable and the scents in the room were simply awesome. we took the choa phraya cruise with the apsara and the experience was out of this world! although a little pricey, but it was something we will never forget! my son and my sister were with us and all of us had a blast1

Wonderful rooms and relaxing ambience

Delightful hotel, my room was spacious with a super sized bath tub and an assortment of bath time potions. All the luxury of a spa in the city. The rooftop bar and restaurant is breathtaking and the dining experience exceptional. The hotel staff were lovely and more than helpful.

We stayed one night on Christmas Eve. This was our second time staying at this hotel but we have dined here many times before. The rooms are getting old, but it was clean and spacious. Great value, would highly recommend. We dined at the Celadon @Sukothai hotel next door. Easy walking distance. The Moon bar on the 61st floor was crowded and so we opted to grab drinks on the 51st(?) floor.

Nice Hotel, but not for tourists

the reception at the hotel was friendly. the staff told us that we can relate our room in 20 minutes. after an hour of waiting and repeated requests we were finally in our room!
the room was neat and clean, but the decor is a bit older.
in the restaurants we were not desirable because it have clothing regulations. although the terrace was completely empty, the staff said, quite rude that shorts and open shoes are not allowed and we should leave the restaurant.
for businessmen, the hotel is highly recommended. for tourists it is not the right place.
