If you need a great hotel in Bangkok not too far from the airport and shopping areas and MRT station, Chaophya Park Hotel should be the right choice.The food at the various restaurants is also great.

As location is slightly north of downtown, it is less traffic jam to reach there from airport. Also subway station is very close (5 minutes).

Not exactly a central location, but close to subway and taxi can get you downtown for 70 baht if you don't mind the traffic congestion...
My room was upgraded on arrival, so got a very good deal for the money.
- Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : Dinner cruise on the river, used by the locals - a modern boat, not a tourist special - was unforgetable. Food was best I have ever tasted.
