Generally very nice hotel, with a nice location, and convenient surroundings. If you wanna go out in the morning and go back at night, this hotel would be a nice choice with good price. I never used the pool, but it looks good too.
Not a lot of bars or restaurants around, so probably not a nice location for nightlife seekers.

Trang Hotel
It was a nice place close to Khao San but still away from all of the backpacker stuff. It felt safe.

Staff is not trained very well. Lighting in room is minimal and the shower didn't work in my room. I am new to budget travel so I don't know if my expectations were too high, but it was not a terrible place, either.

good location for us
we decided to stay here because of the location.

we stayed for a couple of nights before flying to phuket. i've stayed in bangkok many times in the past and chose the trang hotel purely for its location.
when you only have a couple of days to see the sights its a good idea to be close to a few of them. the hotel is well placed for the klong river (wat arun) the grand palace, the reclining buddha etc. we caught a short taxi ride to the skytrain to visit the chatachak weekend markets and to go to the airport.
the hotel is quite basic - we upgraded to a premium superior room - but it has a decent pool, the food and the service are good.

the trang hotel is situated at the northern end of banglamphoo on wisutkasat road, about 1 km away from khao san road, the meeting area for bachpackers. the somhow a little small rooms are renovated and some have even a flatscreen kable tv set. the large swimmingpool is inside the hotel,
and is a convenient place for recreation and relaxation. one of the big bonuses is the inner court, where you can take your breakfast buffet . in the hotel lobby is internetaccess available , for around 150.- thb per hour. at the reception you can get a safety box, if you pay .- thb deposit for the key. the hotel stuff is friendly and helpful, and all in all the hotel is good value for money.
another plus is the good location, next to wat indraviharn, between banglamphoo and thewet market. so the hotel is a good place to stay in the middle range of bangkok hotels.
