Good location but now tacky

i have stayed in the hotel for the past 20 years in total perhaps 30 times. i have always liked it's amenities and the rooms. the service is good and by now, everyone knows my name. but the recent changes have totally changed the character of the hotel. it now caters to group tours and the lobby and connecting facilities have been replaced by very garish shops selling discount jewelery and cheap clothing.

Stayed for 2 nights. Rooms were clean although it was a bit old. Very close to platinum mall lots of wholesale stuff to buy. Easy access to
Hotel after shopping. Food centre in the hotel serves local food fare at reasonable prices.
Travel tip:
Always take the all green taxi. They are government regulated and more reliable. Do not take the tuk tuk that offers you cheap rides, some brings you to the tourist centers and force you to
Buy things u don't want.

One night in Bangjok and the worlds your oyster

My friend and I stayed 2 nights at this hotel. We had a single bedroom suite and were quite surprised with the size of the suite. There was a 'front room' which had a couch, big tv, table and kitchenette, the bedroom contained a decent bed, another big tv, wardrobes and a dressing table with a large mirror (perfect if you want to sit down with a drink while you apply makeup for a night out)
the bathroom was great, with a large shower as well as a separate bath/shower. The location was good with malls and markets close by. The hotel had a Starbucks downstairs which was a convenient kick start to the day! there were stalls/shops actually in the lobby and the hotel connected with a shopping mall which was a little different.
staff were great, always helpful and polite!
I would consider staying here again if I returned to Bangkok.
Shopping Tip:
There are many malls nearby, so many that we did 2 full days of concentrated shopping yet only actually worked through 3 malls. The platinum mall is great and if you turn right when exiting the front of the hotel you will find it a little ways down the street.
We bought HEAPS of makeup from a cosmetics stand and found that if you find a good stand with a lot of options - it works out cheaper to buy bulk from the same stand as they discount depending on how much your buying. A smile and a joke goes a long way and I found everyone to be really nice.
I'd recommend always having a small pack of tissues handy in case you need to use the toilet and they dont have any toilet paper.
for new travellers I'd recommend you use metered cabs and always request they put the meter on - its easy to be overcharged if you don't know how far your destination is. Tuk Tuks are fabulous and we used them for most of the time we were there - make sure you agree on a price before the ride though.

Was vey disapointed with this hotel I missed breakfast and was not allowed to use the voucher the next day, so had to pay for breakfast again. Also if you wish to travel from this hotel it was very difcuilt due to the traffic and taxis do not want you to use them due to the diffcuilty in movement.
Shopping Tip:
Great location if you are on a shopping mission.
