Food, Drink and Entertainment

Mandarin Oriental Hotel Bangkok - Food, Drink and Entertainment

You’re spoilt for choice as far as eating is concerned during your stay at The Oriental, Bangkok. There are nine venues to choose from, offering a wide range of international cuisine.

Le Normandie
Connoisseurs from all over South-East Asia flock to Le Normandie for its splendid cuisine, impeccable service, elegant ambience and the wines from its exceptional cellar. Situated in the Garden Wing of The Oriental, Bangkok, its full a la carte French menu specialises in exemplary seafood and meat dishes, although there’s always an alternative but no less exquisite set menu, both at lunchtime and dinner.

Lord Jim’s
Named after the seafaring hero created by the novelist Joseph Conrad, Lord Jim’s reputation for magnificent seafood is almost as well-travelled as its namesake. It is renowned world wide, particularly for its sushi and sashimi dishes that are often to be seen in our buffet lunches and a la carte dinner menu.

Sala Rim Naam
Housed in a richly decorated Thai pavilion, originating from Northern Thailand, the restaurant is also the setting for one of the kingdom’s unique cultural experiences - classical Thai dancing, performed before your table every night. It’s the perfect accompaniment to such lavish cuisine.

China House
Located just outside the hotel, the China House is a colonial style house transformed into a first class Chinese restaurant. It specialises in Cantonese food, but with additional dishes from other regions such as Szechuan, Shanghai and Chiu Chow. The China House also offers a daily Dim Sum lunch, together with its a la carte menu.

Riverside Terrace
The Barbeque dinner buffet served at the Riverside Terrace has one of the best selections of grilled seafood and meat dishes imaginable, including everything from kebabs to Chinese noodles. It is one of the very few large terraces of its kind in Bangkok, and is wonderful for enjoying the cooler nights by the river.

The Verandah
The Verandah offers new levels of all-day dining featuring a wide variety of Asian and Western dishes, all served in elegant contemporary Thai surroundings either indoors or outdoors on the banks of the Chao Phraya river.

Ciao
This restaurant is nestled beside the lush tropical gardens of the Authors' Lounge. Take your seat outside on its marble terrace and you can dine on the finest Italian fare, including the tastiest pizzas made in our own wood-fired oven and a variety of home-made pasta. To accompany it, choose from the freshest salads, with the sweetest ice creams to follow.

The Authors' Lounge
On the ground floor of the Authors’ Wing, this lounge has old colonial charm and is decorated with white rattan furniture. It is considered to be an institution for traditional afternoon tea with scones, finger sandwiches and cakes and of course only the worlds finest teas (or coffee).

The Bamboo Bar
This Bar is a Bangkok legend. It’s renowned for its live jazz, and features internationally acclaimed singers in its programme. The atmosphere is wild yet sophisticated, set against an appropriate backdrop of jungle décor.

Dinner Cruises
Step aboard our “Maeyanang” rice barge for an unforgettable evening filled with dazzling images of river life, starlit temples and monuments. It all begins when cocktails are served, followed by a Thai buffet style dinner. The boat is constructed of golden teakwood, with traditional Northern Thai style wooden dining tables and chairs, and is the perfect romantic setting from which to experience the beauty of the River of Kings.

We only stayed here for 1 night and we regret not staying longer. It is the best hotel my we have ever stayed in. From the moment you step out of the car the service is faultless. They seem to know your next move without being intrusive. The room was spectacular. The view of the river was amazing. We had the chance to try out their morning buffet on the terrace by the river. The setting was perfect. Very relaxed and food was great. They also have a boat shuttle service to and from the sky train which is very handy. From now on i think we'll always stay there when we go to Bangkok.

There is just nothing I can say against this hotel - it is absolutely fabulous.

Can't think of any!

  • Nightlife Tip : There's a hotel called "Lebua at State Tower" in walking distance from oriental hotel and its sky bar (68th floor) offers breathtaking views of Bangkok and its Chao Phraya river.

This hotel offers the best in quiet elegance and friendly service through out the whole hotel. The care rendered to each of our party was warm and genuine. They really help solve any problem one may encounter.

Its all about the service! Friendly, gracious and caring. The Concierge service at the hotel and the transer service at the airport went beyond the call of duty. One of our party ran into passport problems for the next leg of our journey and the Oriental agent at the airport took care of getting her to the Embassy to straighten out the passport and getting her on the next plane the following day. The airport transfer service was luxurios and expensive but worth every penny and more for the service rendered in times of trouble.

I cannot think of any weakness in the level of service provided by the hotel.

  • Shopping Tip : There is a wonderful tailor shop in the shopping centre behind the hotel - The Cotton House at the O. P. Place.

Impeccable services at all levels. Never flashy or intrusive. The floor butler is a real handyman and know how to solve problems, if any. While passengers of multiple show boats disembark at the River City Pier in the evening, no boat service of the Oriental is possible. In this case (and for that particular "disembarking" period) Oriental should consider passenger transportation service by a small minivan. In case of Limousine Service from the airport, the hotel should make sure that the luggage of the arriving guests really fit into the BMW 7-series. The last time we had 6 pieces (on our way to Tokyo) and it hardly fit in. We sat pretty squeezed in our back seats, not very comfortable.

Impeccable services at all levels.

1. The low frequency of the boat service to the River City Pier 2. Consider passenger transportation service by a small minivan during "disembarking period" at River City Pier. 3. Limousine Service with lots of baggages is a problem.

  • Restaurant Tip : Nice local market right next to the Millennium Hilton a the river, between River City and the Sheraton Hotel is a nice restaurant next to the river, with reasonable priced food and drinks and Thai dancing Show every evening.
