charming layout, lovely teak panelling on some floors, nice staff, conv to girlie scene if thats your cupppa
limited fitness center, average service
montien is worth visiting and has the old BKK feeling, but is not for everyone. The urban pollution scene and low-brow street life is ambient. Teak paneling and good breakfast are among the attractions. i would return adn the rate was good value. its an institutions for some people and i understand why

Extremely nice hotell with nice "thai" atmosphere.
Helpfull staff
Excellent breakfast
Good location
Only negative was the showers. Bad water preassure and it was hopeless to get an adequate temprature...
Even though this an old hotel, I still find it very good value. Nice rooms, excellent breakfast and good location. Also the staff are always frriendly and helpfull.

Close to the BTS, near the evening market, the Montien offers 4 star value for reasonable prices, but this might have been because there were renovations going on. Staff very friendly
The swimming pool was closed, which thry "forgot" to inform me about at the time of booking.
A reasonable alternative for those who want to stay near Patpong. Personally, I found the obligatory along the touts to reach the skytrain a bit annoying.

Near Sky train to access all tourist sights of Bangkok. 5 star service at 4 Star prices
Area can be a bit sleazy if your with children
I always stay at the Montien in Bangkok. Best value four star I have found in years of visiting Bangkok.
Near to Sky Train, shopping and nightlife. Try the Buffet Dinner in the Hotel, super value and fantastic food. Staff very pleasant and helpful and speak good English. Nice swimming pool on 4th floor.

I have nothing to put under this heading.
I am not sure who issues the star ratings for hotels but this is a dump. More below.
Oh, where to start.... I am a frequent business traveler and also a frequent visitor to lovely Bangkok. This may be the worst hotel value in my memory. Obviously once a nice place, it has now fallen to ruin. Many maintenance problems including the toilet not flushing and the temperature of the water uncontrollable. The water was so hot a shower was impossible. When I complained, the manager insulted me by by saying that "What did I expect? You are on a tourist rate" Well, maybe a shower. Avoid this place at all costs. Bangkok has so many great hotels why settle for this one-star has been?

Excellent location right in the heard of the tourist area. Patpong, with its nightlife and night market for good bargains, is just opposite the Hotel. The hotel staff is very friendly. Breakfast is the best we ever had in a 4+ star hotel. This Montien is definitely our first choice.
We actually didn't miss anything during our stay!
For all those people who intend to enjoy the nightlife and/or shopping, this is the Hotel to choose. Excellent location, friendly hotel staff, nice rooms for the money you need to spend...
It is not a 5 star hotel. You don't need to get dressed for dinner! It is easy to feel comfortable in this hotel.

Last time I stayed at this hotel and staffsare equally kind but this time the receptionist asked for TBH1,800 for early check-in, in fact I informed them of my early arrival at 07:00
I felt the living room/bathroom are not clean rather dirty, shower system not working properly and also lock of basin is not working.
The hotel must pay attention to cleanliness
and hope to keep 4 star (if so) level/quality.

Location. Service. Reasonable rates.
Some tender loving care needed for the facilities. And also the location . . .
We have stayed there a number of times over the past 5 years, and have suggested it to friends for it's positive points. Unfortunately, there are now some negative points that need to be weighed up.
The Montien is well located near the raging nightlife (if that's your cup of tea) and Patpong night markets. Usefully close to the Skytrain and it's fast links to the major shopping districts.
The staff are very helpful, service prompt as is to be expected.
Unfortunately, the property is looking a little tired and scruffy around the edges. The time has come to plan for some renovations. And the location, while handy, is now becoming more seedy that it used to be.

This hotel is very centrally located, and is adjacent to the large night market. It is perfectly placed in a nice niche, when one doesn't want to go the full 6 star treatment for just a short overnight stop, and yet is seeking a safe, secure and convenient stopping place.
The Montein is a getting a bit old fashioned, and needs some modernisation in its public areas, however it is very very clean.
My wife and I recently stayed at the Montein, and we loved its quaint old/new styling. There was no complaint with the exemplary Thai food, or our buffet breakfasts, which were on par with any other hotel which we have visited in Asia or Thailand. The maitre D,(Simon) was befitting of the highest establishment, and made us feel as though we were royalty.
Travel tip : A brilliant base for a central Bangkok holiday. The night markets and the people in them are amazing. If you want to know anything that happens in Bangkok, then ask the Maitre D, he is a gem!

Excellent breakfast buffet
Good location, very central
Staff very helpful
It was the first time we stayed in this Montien and I must say we weren't very impressed. Maybe 30 years ago it was a very nice hotel, but right now they better close the hotel and give it a thorough renovation. It looks very run down. After we complained, we were offered a much better room, but in my opinion it was just bearable. The windows are very old and badly insulated, you hear a lot of noise either from the market or the highway.
On the other hand they had a very cosy breakfast area, nice to sit and a phantastic buffet. There was about everything you can imagine (hot and cold).
The hotel is located right in the center of everything, there a restaurants and shops within walking distance. And of cause the famous night bazar. There is a skytrain station and an underground close to the hotel.
The hotel staff really tries everything to please you and because of them our stay wasn't a complete disaster.
