Navalai River Resort, Bangkok

My wife and I came to Thailand for our honeymoon - first time in Thailand - and the Navalai was our first stop when we got off the plane. It was a welcome place to crash after the long flight from San Francisco at 1am. The staff were friendly and the room was clean and cute. We actually stayed here twice on our trip - once for at the beginning and again at the end before flying out. We would come back. As others have noted, there are two things to be aware of: hard mattresses, and be advised that if you get a City View room, it will be noisy at night. These are not necessarily cons - my wife prefers a hard mattress, while I do not. As far as the noise goes, well, you're in a big city - and you're staying in a very active neighborhood with a night life, so what do you expect? There are a number of bars and clubs/restaurants across the street that play music and have live music, so you'll hear that start up after 10pm and it will go into the night. At least it's not right on Rambuttri. However, if you are running the air conditioner all night, this will effectively drown out most of the city sounds, and it didn't really bother us. If you don't want to deal with this, spend a few hundred extra baht and get the River View room instead - we would definitely do this next time and the views would be better, as well.

The best rooms are the Riverside rooms overlooking the river and the pier, but the other rooms are nice also. The staff are very friendly and extremely helpful with info and taxi fares etc. The included breakfast is fantastic, almost enough to feed you for the day.

We arrived hot and tired at the Navalai River Resort about 5am off a 9 hour train ride, the hotel did everything they could to get us into a room within about 45mins. The rooms were clean and quiet, exactly what you need to escape the hustle and bustle of a day out on the streets of Bangkok. There is a nice pool to cool off in on the hotel roof top with towels supplied up there. The location is fantastic with plenty of cheap eats and night life within strolling distance and lots of shops and stalls to pick up souvenirs and gifts. The buffet breakfast was nothing special.
