Located in Bangkok’s China Town area, this hotel offers warm Thai hospitality for every one of their guests. The New Empire provides easy access to tourists attractions such as Traimit Temple, Wat Pra Kaew, and the famous Chao Phraya river where you can take a pleasant longtail boat ride. Bangkok is also well known for its shopping districts, which includes Siam Paragon, Sampeng Market, Emporium and Central World. All of these destinations can be reached by a nearby BTS Skytrain or one of Bangkok’s many convenient taxis. Location is very convenient for those who plans to travel from BKK by train as it is in about 5-7 min walk from Hualamphong train station. It is also just a couple of minutes walk to busy and colorful tiny market streets of China Town, but not right there which is good.
The hotel overall was very worn out, especially my room inside. Disc phone from 70's dirty walls, scratched doors, old tiles in bathroom. Huge floor mounted old model aircon had only manual switch on/off. When it was ON it was freezing, when it was OFF it was humid. Included breakfast had just a few set dishes to choose from, all of which were VERY basic. On arrival, staff could not find my Agoda booking although I presented printed voucher and wanted me to pay before I check-in. I insisted they call to Agoda. It was late and I was afraid Agoda is closed, but luckily it was open. Only after the phone call they confirmed my booking.
Next time I have a stopover in Bangkok and travelling by train I will definitely not staying in this hotel. If you definitely looking to stay in China Town area for a few dollars more try Chinatown hotel instead. It is just next door and looks like much better (at least visually). But I think you can find much better value for money options around Kaosan Rd. and catch a taxi to Hualaphong from there (for about 60 Bath if you insist on using meter). I've just travelled across the SE Asia region and The New Empire Hotel was one of the worst choices I made. I usually spent less than on this one elsewhere and had better accommodation than this hotel.
