Location next to MBK shopping centre, newly renovated rooms, close to skytrain, 25 metre pool

Small rooms, no CNN on cable

Great hotel for a short stay in Bangkok as it is next to an extensive shopping centre (MBK) as well as the skytrain. I booked because the hotel had a 25 metre pool so I could swim laps. Having only an overnight stay, its excellent location and its newly renovated rooms made a comfortable stay. Breakfast, though not inclusive, is available up to 8 AM at half price had a large variety of choices. Pity that they seat you like sardines in a small section of an empty restaurant.

Restaurant Tip : If you enjoy reading a newspaper at breakfast time, don't forget to ask for one when you are being seated as they will happily supply one.

Perfect location in the center of the city. Right on top of MBK Shopping center. Foot walk distance to fife to seven top malls in the area. Best hotelpool in the center of bangkok, including fitness club (open to the public).

High price per room compared to similar hotels in the greater area. Unpersonal treatment and missing charm. Just professional but that's it.

It's a great hotel for people who have the budget and want to stay a bit longer in bangkok. With it's infrastructure it provides an oasis in the middle of the roaring city of Bangkok. Especially for people on business visite it's infrastructur is above average and also the dry-foot-direct access to public transportation is extremely convenient. But if you're on a budget (night rates in May 2009 were about US$ 130 plus VAT per room with one livingroom and one bedroom including small kitchen and walk in closet) you find similar places for half the money. Check out Natural Ville Hotel and Serviced Appartments on Tanon Langsuan 61. Also be aware, that the Pathumwan Princess in the process of renovation. You might experience some construcktion noise during the daytime. I assume it will last at least untill mid / end 2010 until they will be done. The good thing is, that the quantity of newly renovated rooms will be increasing over time. The bad part is, that they probably will increase prices on the newly renovated rooms. Personally i'd expect - for the price of the hotel - that the new rooms would be worth the price, the old ones are not up to date anymore - or at least not for the price charged at present (May 2009)

Shopping Tip : Check out "Suan Lum Nightmarket" next to Lumpini Park. It's a great place to shop for regional products ant thai design items as well as for the general stuff you might also find on other street markets. It also has a giant beergarden with live music. But hurry up. According to local people, it's supposed to disappear and be replaced by some other annonymous giant building of the sort that you see all over. So in May 2009 it's still open and i assume it will be for an other while, at least until the current econcomic downturn makes room for better times.
