Tacky looking rooms, cardboard walls, ac ineffective in most rooms
We did not have a good experience at the Sawasdee Smile Inn. We had to change rooms thrice! It was very hot and ac was not working... quite a pain to carry all the bags and move to a different room. But since the rates were very low and the location so good, we decided not to complain.
Hotel Feature Tip : There's a shortcut from this place to Khaosan Road - through a hotel. You don't have to walk around the temple to get there. After getting out of the hotel, take a right and go straight

Location in the city, price.
Too noisy street at night, bad smell out of the air condition, bad door lock.
The hotel suits its price; the location is ok - close to all the Bangkok points. But the street is too noisy at night. The wall is too thin so we could hear the neighbors. There are safe boxes at the Reception, but the reception crew asked me to bring my own lock for it - this is a bit inconvenient. The breakfast is good, but the service could be better.

Filthy and tiny room, rude staff, difficult to find location.
I was very disappointed in this place...After walking all over the place trying to find it, I was greeted by rude staff. I was shocked at how moldy the bathroom was and how tiny the room. This hotel belongs in the listing for backpackers only and should only charge 300 baht at most!!!
Hotel Feature Tip : If you are crazy enough to stay here, make sure you get good directions before you go. It is on a dead-end street behind the temple next to Khoa San Road.

Location in the middle of the Khao San area
The Sawasdee Smille Inn is a good choice for a budget hotel -- clean rooms for a low price. The amenities are very basic and simple, and the staff is O.K., too.\nThe chief advantage of the hotel is its location -- it sits right in the heart of the Khao San area and is thus very convenient fot those who wish to explore this area. It is also close to the Khao San ferry pier, from which you can take a public ferry up the Chao Praya river to any destination.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : Close to public river ferry

Very close to Kao Sahn Road.
Handy location and friendly staff - very dated and unclean room though. Only one English channel with reception although advertised as having satellite TV.

Very close to Khao San Road, but far enough away from all the noise. Simple clean accommodation, just had a double bed, tv, aircon and separate toilet/shower.
Not in straightforward location
I booked this accommodation as I didn't want to arrive in Bangkok without having something for the first night. My room was very simple and clean, with a double bed with blanket, tv, aircon, window, basin and a separate ensuite room with toilet and shower. There were no drawers/cupboards but as I wasn't staying long that didn't bother me. You can also lock the door with your own lock if you wish, which makes it more secure.
It is in quite a good location, about a five minute stroll to Khao San Road, with restaurants, bookstore and massage parlours nearby.
Breakfast was included and was fine (English style breakfasts) although they made me pay for an additional coffee (even though I was staying in a 2 person room) and followed me to my room to ensure I gave them the money.
Staff were friendly but I was disappointed when I went back the same night after checking out to chase up some earrings I had left in the room, only to be told to come back the next day and then again the day after that. I never did get them back.
As you can book this hotel on the internet, it was a good starter to be able to stay there the first night and then look at cheaper options nearby and in Khao San Road for future nights.
However, I would suggest printing off a map of the location of the hotel, as it is slightly off the beaten track and my taxi driver wasn't exactly sure where it was. From the airport, it should cost about 400 baht including tolls (as long as the traffic is not too congested).

Good location. Cheap price.
Performance of staffs was really bad.
Hotel status is really bad.
Never again. That is my opinion. The hotel has two good points: cheap price and location, that's it. The rest was really bad. Dirty room, small room, no elevator and so on. When I enter the room, I was speechless. I felt the room was equivalent to rooms on the street. The food they provided was too simple and didn't even taste good. The worst thing was the performance of staffs. They had no manner. I'm serious. There is no need to talk about it. If you don't believe, just experience for yourself. This hotel is located near Khaosan road. And then you can get to the Royal Palace on foot. It s not too far. If you only want to travel (only sleep in the hotel), I recommend you this hotel. I think the hotel is the cheapest place..although not a bad place for travelers, but I'll never go again.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : There is a good travel agency just beside the hotel.

The hotel is too small, and air conditioner is too noisy, we did not have a good sleep
I chose this hotel because it is cheap, and pictures of room on the website is not so small. However, we were disappointed when we step into the room, it is too small. The worst thing is too noisy from air-conditioner, and we hardly could not sleep although we were so tired when we arrived hotel at 3:00 am.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : It is near to Grand Palace, only take 10 minutes by walk, and to bus station to airport 5 minutes by walk

Cheap, staff very friendly
Basic, it's on Khao San Road
Just don't bother - this is great for what it is. A cheap hotel for backpackers who don't want to pay another $5 a night. Leave it. Just pay the money and have a better stay. Yes, it's cheap, but for the extra money you can have so much more. Plus, Khao San Road is totally overrated. There's the most amount of white people in all of Thailand, which actually isn't that great. You lose the Thai sense of being friendly, and attracts peddlers and scam artists.
The staff were very friendly and accomodating however. I have no complaints as such, other than with myself: I should have stopped being cheap and just paid for a bit more and got a double bed and a nice big bathroom. As it stands, this was your average youth hostel room. Adequate, but not nice. Breakfast nicer than buffet nonsense though.
Nightlife Tip : Just stay away from Khao San, it's a tourist magnet. Go stay with the Thai's; they're better company.

With a more professional and well-trained employees, this hotel will be a better best-value hotel.
Travel tip : When taking a tuk-tuk, be sure you find the kind drivers, because some of them are very impolite and get mad when you bargain for the prize.
