Surprisingly quirky gem with wonderful service
7.3
The area promised very little but the hotel was amazing with very unusual decor, a wonderful ambiance, great service and caring staff. The rooms had no windows to the outside which could put some people off but the interior with a glorious atrium was a major counter. Hard for some taxis to find but access via the extensive BKK train network made it easy to get around.

Fun hotel, great location
in middle of action of Chinatown, quirky decoration, great live jazz
9.3
Have thought about this hotel several times when looking for accommodation in Bangkok - glad I finally stayed. Room was colourful and fun, perfectly comfortable; right outside are a wealth of options for eating; easy walk to public transportation; staff helpful and friendly.
Nightlife Tip:
Check out the Siam Swing Band - they play most nights in the Cotton Club on 3rd floor of hotel.

Great location but run down
location is near the main street in patong
6
room looked much nicer from the photos in the Net. Actually quite run down. balcony sliding door lock was faulty - couldn't lock.
access to the hotel is from back alley.
front office staff not friendly enough.
overall reasonable value for money though.
short walk to patong beach.

Very special atmosphere, beautiful rooms
Spacey room, beautiful interior, mostly very friendly staff
9.7
clean, beautiful, very special rooms, helpful staff. bath in the middle of the room, transparent windows on the doors in the toilet and shower. the room was suitable for couples or very close friends. strange thing that there was no daylight in the room. good breakfast for meet eaters, not so much for vegetarians, but i got a special made dish.
Hotel Feature Tip:
The stay in the hotel was a nice treat after staying in very primitive beech bungalows.

Oasis from the beautiful chaos just outside
Calm, soothing atmosphere, attentive staff
9.7
was there 3 days, and just loved it. felt like a safe haven from the heat , the noise and all the lovely bustle of chinatown downstairs. really well located, i walked to wat pho from here, and to the metro, to go to jj market. would highly recommend.
only negative, is that cab had a tough time finding it. make sure you know your cross streets beforehand, there is a huge sign'' cotton'' for their jazz lounge, and a tiny sign above it for the hotel.
great breakfast.

Cute boutique hotel
Excellent customer service
8
Very cute place, rooms were comfortable and had everything we need. Breakfast was great and the service was excellent. Our only complaint was the king size bed in one of our rooms was just two twins pushed together.
Hotel Feature Tip:
Very close to train station.

a unique hotel experience in bkk's chinatown
pleasant, unique decor, close to great food options, nice bathrooms
8
after taking the escalator up to the lobby, you're greeted with welcome drinks and the sight of the hotel's striking, ancient china-inspired interior. one glimpse of your room, and you'll realize shanghai mansion is unlike any hotel you've ever stayed at. the decor is certainly colorful but still tasteful, archaic in style with some touches of contemporary flair. also, you're within a few steps of some of bangkok's tastiest food options in chinatown (shark fin, seafood, bird's nest, kuay chap, etc.) and the hotel's cotton jazz club. didn't get back in time to check out the jazz, but the awesome neon sign outside and the idiosyncratic locale make it look promising. they also provide a decent breakfast buffet with a number of chinese, western, and thai food options. customer service was helpful and eager to help whenever the opportunity arose.
however, they should figure out a parking situation for driving customers. we had to pay upwards of baht to park overnight at a nearby structure. the blankets are disproportionately small relative to the beds, so you might have to call down and have someone bring you an extra blanket in the middle of the night when you're feeling chilly from the air conditioning (which, in thailand, is not the worst problem one can have).
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip:
Go outside. Eat everything you see.

Beautiful rooms
Standalone bathtub, great oriental feel
8.7
we loved the huge bed, standalone bath and amazing antique oriental feel. airport transfer was a bit expensive, so i'd recommend taking a taxi. the hotel is located in chinatown so it's very easy for a taxi driver to find.
Restaurant Tip:
Take the MRT and go to Bankara Ramen (it will blow your mind). Google it for the address.
