Good location, clean, good breakfast.
Room needed a bit of attention, but it was ok.
Booked this last minute as most of the guesthouses were full. Not a bad place at all. Great location, clean, good staff, all amenities you'd expect from a hotel.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : Golden Palace

Great location, good breakfasts
Annoying taxi and tuk-tuk drivers all around
If you are not the backpacker type, the Viengtai hotel is the best place to stay near Kao San Road. Deluxe rooms are much better than standard ones (good beds are important), and quite clean. The breakfast is the same every day but not bad (but don't take any sauce with your veg if you don't want to spend the next couple of hours in the WC).
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : When taking a taxi, bargain hard. The fair price is usually half of what the driver wants, and sometimes even less. Never believe people telling you that this or that sight is closed for the day - that's usually part of a scam, so go check for yourself. And don't even visit jewelry shops if you're not a specialist.

good location, cheap, good service, clean and nice pool
little old, but this is being picky for the price and location
only stayed here for one night as a stop over on the way to koh samui, it was perfect for that as it is only one block back from kohsan road. The rooms were clean and simple which is perfect if your only looking for a base to come home to at the end of a day in Bangkok. The pool was nice and deep (which is great to jump into after a big night out)

Close to Khaosan Road. Clean. Well looked after by cleaning staff.
Bathroom sink plug did not work. Narrow selection of cable TV stations available in Bangkok.
Overall I enjoyed my stay at this hotel. It seemed clean but I noticed that the staff didn't notice a dead cockroach on my floor for 2 days!? The room service was prompt and good. I have stayed in hotels that offer better cable though. They only provide 1 of 4 available movie channels. The room was both quiet and private.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : This is a great hotel for westerners who want to mix with westerners and Thais. It is adjacent to Khaosan Road and at night time the streets here are a party with both cheap street food or cafe/restaurant foods available.

The hotel is near to the attractions, have a good breakfast, very good staff (friendly)
The room was a little bit old...
It`s a good hotel but maybe it`s better to stay in the new center. Take care with the Tuk Tuk`s drivers, you must go with them just in one way journey, not in many places, not doing a turism with the same tuk tuk because he will take you to places that you don`t want, will take you to fake jewerly to win gasoline from the shops! It`s a Mafia there, and don`t believe on them when they say some places are closed! They do this for you going with them in another places! Take care!

Clean, great location, clean bathroom, large rooms, friendly, helpful staff.
My stay at Viengtai was perfect. The staff were helpful, the room was clean, and the bathroom functioned properly (and was also clean). The room came with a mini-bar fridge, huge bed (a bit hard, but not that bad), and air-con. I guess the only con was that the room was too dark, but I didn't spend that much time there anyway. Would definitely stay there again.
Hotel Feature Tip : The tourist agency in the lobby is great - they offer cheaper deals than at most other places and are very helpful even if you just need advice.

In the middle of of the downtown. 1 minute to other busy and lovely streets.
Little used, but for the price paid it is great package.
On of the best and looking hotels in Kao San area. Friendly staff. The advantage is, that you are still in the middle of all Bangkok "MUST SEE" food and court life, but the noisy street is 3 minutes walk. You do not want to sleep there, but rather enjoy the evening beauty here with famous curry, noodles, bugs, satay cooking carts and lovely bars.
Restaurant Tip : Two food cart/mobile stands and the end of the street to your left. One opens at 4pm and has the best chicken noodle soup with sen lek noodles. The other runs for 20h a day and servers the best green curry!

Efficient service, good staff, convenient location
I have stayed at this hotel a couple of times whilst working in the area and it is a good, clean mid range hotel. Very convenient location -close to Khao San Rd etc without being in the middle of it and the staff are always very friendly and ultra helpful when needed. Good alternative to staying right on Khao San Rd.

hotel was clean and close walking distance to all the night life of khao san rd. much quietier than staying right on khao san rd. try to get a room not facing the street to make it even quietier.
From the reviews that i read thru agoda, i knew this would be a good place to stay in the khao san area. real short walk and great bars and restaurants around. the rooms were clean and quiet. if you get a room facing the road, it could be a little noisier until around 1am or so. i would definately stay here agian if given the opportunity. i did not eat in the restaurant so i do not know what the food is like in there.

I chose the hotel as I was working in the area and it is a good mid range option. Rooms were well presented and the staff were very helpful and courteous. In room internet access was relatively expensive but convienent. Plenty of activity in the area and street food options 24/7 and about a block away from Khao San Rd.

Convenient location, good staff.
Bit noisier than expected.
Centrally located, Viengtai is a good mid-range option if you need to stay in the area for work and don't want to stay in a noisy backpacker guesthouse. It has nice rooms with friendly helpful staff and interesting street food and bars just outside the hotel. If you are working in the area (and not based in Sukhumvit) then this is a good option.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : Walk to the end of the road to get a passing tuk tuk instead of the ones out the front for better rates and taxis that will use their meter.

Service is quick and efficient, location is excellent, rooms are clean and comfortable
Food in the restaurant not too crash hot. Rooms at front of hotel are very noisy due to the goings on at Khao San Rd and Rambuttri.
The Viengtai is a budget hotel in a good location. The rooms are spacious, clean and have all the amenities that you need. There is also a pool at this hotel which is always a bonus for hotels around this price range and area. Breakfast can be included in your room rate, but I would advise skipping this in favour of local street food. Overall a budget hotel that is satisfactory for short stays in Bangkok.

Location - you can find everything you want on the street, and that will be cheap as dirt.
Clean and spacious rooms, free baby cot (metallic), free drinking water, nice buffet, friendly staff. Swimming pool on the 6th floor can be useful too.
Street can be considered crowded and noisy by someone who is not used to Thai life.
View from the windows on the ruined walls is far from pleasant.
The corridors are not air-conditioned and can be very hot.
No cartoons on the TV - a thing to consider for those traveling with kids.
Generally the hotel is OK for 1-3 days stay between the flight. Close to the main tourist attractions, clean and good-looking. The air-con in silent. And you'll have no problem finding a place to eat - actually, you can eat right from the food-carts on the street. Beware of the heavy traffic when going to/from the airport.
Hotel Feature Tip : There's a stand at the hotel lobby with the guy trying to sell you taxi to the airport for 500THB. Avoid him. Ask someone from the staff to call the taxi (or just catch it on the streets) - that will be around 300THB to Suvarnabhumi via highway.

location, staff, good shower
the room was loud, the aircon was not very good, the hotel felt old
This is a good hotel for someone who is interested in staying in the heart of Khao San Road. I was there doing Songkran Festival and although the action was right outside my door, it was loud and chaotic. Definitely not a hotel to come back to and rest/escape from the chaos of Bangkok, but a good place for a rest and a good base.
