Location, staff, the room, the price.
This is such a great hotel of Chiangmai, with a very friendly and helpful staff. The room was fantastic, I will really come back and stay at this hotel every time I come to Chiangmai. The location is excellent for those who like to walk around Nimmanhemin road where there are many art galleries and great coffee shops and my favorite Khun Cheurn Vegetarian restaurant. You will love this restaurant!

Love to be able to relax beside the pool, not a busy place.
Starting to look very tired, in need of a revamp. Paying ridiculus prices for the internet.
Conveniently located for my work, just down the road are plenty of cafes and shopping. It is located in a quieter part of the city and isn't a busy hotel, well priced but this could be because it is now starting to look a bit tired.Very friendly staff, has a definite Thai look about it. I would stay here again if they decide to provide free internet access. Until then will look for somewhere else.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : If going on the Flight of the Gibbon experience, book the earlier time so you are back by 1:30pm with the rest of the day to shop etc.

Quiet, two pools, great service & helpful staff that speak English, great food, nice entertainment by piano player & good room rates.
Charge for internet not good & buffets too high priced compared to whats in town.
A good hotel for the area. I stayed 10 nights. A little older but very clean & quiet. Great Thai food in town & lots of very reasonable massage studios around. Really enjoyed the Riverside area with good bars, boat dinner cruises & night entertainment. Ate lots of Thai food & loved it but hot! Night bazaars are fun & some good malls around.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : Gibbons tree flight was fun. Tiger petting was not good & dangerous with only one door. Animals could get out. Monkey school a joke. Elephant ride bumpy but ok. River trip made the day.

clean room, Fantastic pool!
The internet (wi-fi) cost is ridiculously expensive, it's away from everything but Soi 1 and gets old having to pay so much for transport... the price of the room wasn't bad but everything else around was so overpriced!
The pool was great, great for swimming laps and getting away from Chiang Mai's hustle and bustle and terrible pollution, but everything around was always so expensive: drinks or coffee... the surrounding area is great for a quick visit, but no someplace you want to see day after day.
All the same, the pool was worth it because we spent every evening there, and the room was great and clean and perfect amenities... In all, if you can get a good price on Agoda, it's worth it... the internet price is out of control!
Hotel Feature Tip : don't buy the internet, get free sifi at a coffee shop down the block!

nice stuff, very good atmosphere and exciting rooms
The hotel is very good located, easy to go or drive into the center of Chiang Mai. To stay in hotel is very exciting because the architekture and design of hotel and rooms is very nice. Gives a good feeling to go into restaurant or using the pool landscape . I relaxed very much in this nice area and will come back again
Shopping Tip : Chiang Mai is very good for buying woodcraft, furniture

Close to shopping centre; nice pool area, good value hotel restaurants (on certain days)
rooms need a total overhaul
We stay at this hotel because of its price and convenient location; the pool area is resonable and there are some really great deals at the hotel restaurants. To be honest though, for a few dollars more there are much better hotels to be found around Chiangmai. If the rooms were a little better this hotel would be a great deal - as it is - it is just OK.

great service w/ helpful, English-speaking staff
small ants that get into any food that's open; possibly common to all hotels in the area, so just be careful w/ your food
All the staff members were very helpful, from the concierge to the front desk folks. They answered every question and concern. Rooms were clean and roomy. Beds very comfortable. Hotel is slightly older (compared to the Amari in Bangkok), but it has all the amenities for a 3.5-4-star hotel. There is a shuttle to the Night Market, but it is not free. They charge 85 Baht each way. They run several times in the evenings; you can check on times. They drop off at a very convenient spot, the Starbucks right on the main Night Market street. It's a good landmark at which to meet people (and to find your shuttle!). I missed the last shuttle at 1030 pm, but when I called the hotel, they actually sent the shuttle back to pick me up at just the regular charge. It's a nice van. Tuk tuk's cost about the same each way, so the van is a great way to go. All in all, a very nice hotel with friendly, helpful staff. I'd stay there again.
Shopping Tip : near the second largest mall in Chiang Mai, a very walkable distance (less than 1km); however, I'd take a tuk tuk at night or walk with a buddy

Friendliness, courtesy, efficiency, cleanliness.
Our second visit (myself and wife) for a one night stay was as pleasant as the first. The hotel is lovely without being very modern, and has some very nice decor. It is clean and efficiently run. The staff are friendly and helpful. For a value-for-money pleasant stay in an interesting part of time, it is ideal.
Travel tip : The area adjacent to the hotel is full of interesting sois with many eating and drinking options.

Lovely and helpful staff, two good size pools, nice room of decent size.
Although the superior rooms are nice, the athroom are a bit old and need some refurbushing.
A lovely hotel, well located in the centre of Chiang Mai, near the shopping center, Central and the night bazaar.
The receptionists and the staff in general are very polite and helpful. The breakfast buffet is very good and both swimming pool are quite big. I strongly recommend this hotel.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : very near the centre of the city, reasonable distance from night bazaar.

the room is good sized and quiet
quite dated, bathroom needs refurbishing, staff indifferent
I was disappointed to see two twin beds pushed up next to one another upon entering the room. The room decor is from the 70's or 80's as is the bathroom. They do keep the rooms clean however. The shower in my room was broken but the staff did fix it promptly. The staff speaks limited English and really should be better trained. As is often the case, those staff members who cleaned the rooms did a fine job, better than the reception staff. The internet rates are fair enough if not particularly great value. I didn't partake of the breakfast which, I was told, was 600+ baht and was not included in the internet rate.
Hotel Feature Tip : The hotel is some distance from the night bazaar area but that's not really a negative since there are plenty of restaurants and coffee houses within walking distance.

location is great & service is excellent
rooms a bit older but very clean
I have stayed at Amari 3 times in past 6 months - once for 9 nights. The location is central to Chiang Mai and ideal for those wanting to do day trips or simply relax by the pool. The rooms are well appointed but a bit dated. Service at Amari is excellent the staff have good english skills and can help out to arrange whatever you require. Hotel is value for money and popular with european seniors on organized tours. The buffet breakfast is a highlight and usually included in the room rate to get you fueled up for a days activities in Northern Thailand.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : Ask the hotel to arrange a trip to the main fresh food market in town and make the visit in the early morning 6-7AM. This is the actual local market and not a tourist attraction where the operators of Chiang Mai's many local restaurants buy their ingredients. The market is a wonderful sensory experience and combined with the energy of the frantic buying makes it a great experience. Sit down and have a cup of the local coffee and watch the show- enjoy.

Location maybe the only thing
Hotel is so old and run down. I cant believe Amari let the property run down so badly. Never even want to come outside of the room. We stayed at the deluxe which is newly renovated. room is ok but outside is kinda disgusting! Will not recommend. Only good if you want to save money but there is no luxury. Staff at Front desk is terrible. One simple request for King size bed is not met and took a long time to check in.

Well come treatment.
Room size
Level of cleanness
Swimming pool area
Location is relative far towards old town and riverside attractions it would be very helpful if a Hotel shuttle bus would provide a hourly service to main tourist locations in town
We arrived at the hotel late evening after 4 days of wandering from Chiang Rai , Taton , Pai , check in was very efficient , staff was very polite and welcome drink was offered.
The room was clean and complementary fresh fruit was on the table.
Breakfast had a wide selection of expellant food.
Near by the hotel there is a variety of internet café offering exhalent inexpensive service
Access to the old city or riverside and night market requires transportation due to the remote location of the hotel.

The hotel was stunning. Swimming pools lovely. Friendly and courteous staff.
Out of town. Very expensive services.
I couldn't fault the hotel. It was beautifully decorated with some Thai character. The reception area and bar was welcoming and comfortable with either a pianist or a person playing Thai music cross legged on a plinth. The rooms were great. Everything you'd expect. Pools and gardens beautiful with an aviary and tennis courts. By western standards the rooms were incredibly cheap but the many services on offer were, for me, prohibitively expensive. For example, I was exhausted on the first night so decided to eat in the restaurant. It was a simple Thai meal over five times the price of the same thing elsewhere. I don't mind paying extra for the convenience but that was excessive. Use of the internet the same. However it was lovely and you can avoid those extra charges.
Shopping Tip : A large multi storey shopping centre is within walking distance of the hotel. There are western goods and brands which are a bit cheaper than at home and you can get your VAT [or equivalent] back at the point of sale. Some really interesting shops on the street.
