The service in the hotel was great, as was the location. The hotel itself was quite impressive looking. Returning back to the Centara after a day's tour, other tour members seemed more than a bit envious of our lodging, which cost just a bit over $35. Buffet breakfast was also very good, altho' could use a bit more variety from day to day.

Seriously, the walls are quite thin and you can hear your neighbors quite easily. Take an end unit if you can and pray for courteous neighbors. As others have mentioned, the lifts/elevators as quite slow and insufficient in number. Take a mid-level floor with a view of Doi Suthep and you will be happier. The king sized bed was of poor quality, so soft that it constantly slipped over the edge of the two double spring mattresses and had to be adjusted daily.

Great stay at the Centara Duangtawan Hotel. The front desk staff are very helpful and switched us to a room with a view of Doi Suthep. Everyone including the maid, doormen and restaurant staff were very helpful. The hotel itself at the lobby level is impressive, with high ceilings and well decorated hallways. Although we enjoyed having an end unit with a view of Doi Suthep, the walls as previously mentioned are very thin and our neighbors were very loud. Strangely, it apppeared they ended up having breakfast just behind us the next day. For that reason, as well as problems with a bad mattress, keeping the room with a view was a trade off. However, it was always nice to wake up in the morning with a mountain view. We did pay for a deluxe room and I highly recommend that option. The bathroom is quite large and includes both a bathtub and a shower. The fitness area is a fantastic extra since they have many modern machines as well as free weights. There is a whole floor dedicated to the workout area, as well as the pool. There is also a steam and sauna room. On the downside, the carpets need a good cleaning and damaged in many areas. For some reason, the 11th floor carpet appeared to be better maintained. Altogether, I still thought the hotel was great and with an extremely convenient location. There was a 7-11 directly across from the hotel, with a couple laundry services for 25-30 baht a kilo. There was also a pharmacy next door and of course, the night market just steps away. Recommend the following: 1. Take an end unit with a view of Doi Suthep but be aware of noisy neighbors. 2. Ask for deluxe room or higher class 3. Do not ask for a upper level floor, as the lifts are very slow In general, the Centara Duangtawan is a great play to stay but only if you are tolerant of some inconveniences. If you are the picky type, I recommend you stay elsewhere. If you can put up with a bit of noise and slow lifts, this place is a highly convenient bargain!!!

Nightlife Tip : For a good foot massage(150 baht), go to the Relax & Enjoy massage shop, in the Night market. Its a good massage with none of the funny stuff. For decent food with friendly service at reasonable prices, consider going to Daddy's restaurant. The owner is quite personable.

clean spacious rooms

Lifts were VERY slow! staff on reception didn't seem to know what was going on.

the tourist desk in the hotel was very good. We booked 2 tours through him. spoke very good english. Breakfast is a rip off if its not included with the room, otherwise large buffet.

Good location, well known large hotel.

A nit dated, no free internet.

Overall, this is a pretty decent hotel. It's getting a little bit old, but it's kept up well and is clean, and a good location that taxi drivers and tuk-tuk drivers will know. It is a little annoying that there's no free internet, but many hotels are that way. This is a good hotel if a good discount is attained (and through Agodo I got a great price).

Hotel Feature Tip : If you need to go to the airport, you can get a better deal by talking to a tuk-tuk driver before you pay the hotel taxi fee.

Clean, reasonably priced, excellent buffet, quick response to extra service requests, good laundry service, conveniently located in heart of night market

I really don't have any cons for this place.

This hotel is located in the heart of the night market convenient to all the sights, many good restaurants, and all types of local transportation. It is well known and easy to base out of for excursions around the city. The breakfast buffet is extensive and good quality. I stay here at least twice a year and the service is consistent every time.

Shopping Tip : I was excited to see the new Doi Tung coffee shop just around the corner on the main road running through the night market. That is my favorite coffee which I always buy and take back to the U.S. Previously I could only get it at the airports but you never knew if they'd have enough or not. The new retail location is clean, well lit, offers free wi-fi, and the staff is friendly. Starbucks is a little closer but Doi Tung coffee is much better and much less expensive too.

Locataion is perfect. Great breakfast, fitness club all complimentary

Lifts can take a long time if you are on a high floor. Wifi expensive.

I think is hotel is by far the best value in Chiang Mai. Location is perfect next to the night market but it is not at all noisy. Breakfast is fantastic buffet with chef ready to good you fresh eggs. Fitness club very high standard and large swimming pool with great views of the mountains. I would not hesitate to recommend and I would not consider other options.

Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : Full day tour elephant trekking and rafting including lunch at only 800bht ... great value and great day.

The hotel has excellent location near to the night bazar and the old city. Internet and loundry servuces are expensive inside the hotel so it is better to buy those services outside the hotel. Overall very good value for money

Would recommend for those who love to do lots of shopping at the night bazaar as it very near where you could find great bargains and you could also find good food (lots of choice). Rooms are clean and it value for money booking via agoda.

Front office staff could give a smile while attending to us as my wife is a local. We also feel that they could be more flexible as i have 3night stay with breakfast and my parents in-law has 2 nights without breakfast. Request was turn down by the hotel staff for us to switch out breakfast to my parents in-law. Something the hotel management should look into it.

Its a wonderful stay at the hotel here as the location is at the heart of the night bazaar. The rooms are clean. Got up graded to a business suite upon check in. There is a gym and pool to do workout. Several restaurant and the best part was the buffet breakfast. Lots of choice and the food is delicious.

Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : There is some daily trips which you could go to and the price are range less that 1000 bath. Could to get the along the night bazaar.

Waiting for a lift. Staff very poor. Car park charges.

Maybe i just had a bad experience? but i will never stay there again. As i checked in early at 9.00am the reception said my room would not be ready untill 3pm so i would have to wait.but they also said enjoy the complimentary pool and gym , i thought all hotels with a gym and pool was a part of the payment or were they giving me something for nothing? i doubt that. Then they gave me a room with 2 single beds i waited 2 days to move to a room with a double, and i had to argue with the manager for that. It was the last straw when my partner was charged 75 bhat to park in the hotel car park. what a rip off and that did not include breakfast or a welcome drink.

Great service. Beautiful pool, spa, lounges, and fitness area. Near the best shopping areas in town. They have a shuttle to and from the airport. Everyone had great English skills.

It's older. The air con in my room took a really long time to get cool. It cost to use the internet in the lounge. The room had not been vaccumed when I came into the room.

I think Centara is one of my favorite places for its consistency. It is always consistent in service and comfort. I really enjoy the market areas near the hotel. There are plenty of place to eat, relax and play. The rooms are spacious but older. The Elevators are complex and slow. The pool is large and wonderful. The breakfast has a great variety of foods. I enjoyed my stay and will plan to go back sometime.

Good all round

No cons

The location was excellent in between the night market and the old town. the pool was nice after hot days sightseeing. Good buffet in the restaurant on the ground floor. Cable television had lots of channels. Staff were pleasent and helpful and the room was clean and spacious.

Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : The tour agency opposite on the left as you come out of the hotel are very kind and do good tours. We did a trek with them for 2 days, left our bags there and did all our washing there and everything was perfect.

The facilities are great for a hotel at this price. Excellent gym, pool, sauna, steam, jacuzzi, etc. The in-room bathrooms are quite large too with separate tub and shower. And the rooms have a great view over the old city.

The breakfast buffet had a lot of choices, but quality was just average. We had noisy neighbors one night -- most of the noise came through the adjoining door between the rooms. (The door was closed of course, but not very thick!)

I often stay at this hotel when I am in Chiang Mai. It is an older building, but it is pretty well maintained. The location is OK for tourists. Unfortunately you have to deal with shouts of "taxi taxi" as soon as you step out the door, but that is common in a tourist spot in Thailand. The rooms are very spacious with nice views, and very nice bathrooms. And as I mentioned above, the best thing about the hotel is the excellent gym and pool facilities. I think that for the price (especially if breakfast is included), this hotel is a great deal!

Excellent quality rooms, great location, great staff.

The hotel is set up for wireless internet, & it would be great if it was supplied for free, as not everyone travels with a laptop, and the charges are way too high.

A very high quality hotel in a great location, with plenty of shopping and dining only an easy stroll away.I arrived a week prior to a previously booked golf tour which included a standard room only, I had booked a deluxe room for the first week, and the staff let me stay in that room for the second week with no extra charge.... great stuff.

Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : Don't use the hotel tour desk, many better priced tours & taxi's just a short stroll away.
