It is within walking distance to other much better hotels

Old smelly room, no towels, no complimentary water, no service

The only good thing about the hotel is its cheap price when booking through Agoda. For the first night i paid the walkin price. Eventhough i thought the room was a bit smelly and old fashioned i immediately booked for an other night through Agoda for an other night because i thought i couldn't argue with the internet booking's cheap rate. I called the housekeeping to have my laundry picked up for the fast 3 hour service (charged at 100% extra from normal rate) and went to have a shower. Only to find out that there were no towels so i called housekeeping again to ask for towels and ask why my laundry still haden't been picked up after half an hour it was for the 3 hour fast service after all. After an other 30 minutes i gave up with house keeping and called the reception. The reception then told me that i had to wait for towels untill the housekeeping would make it's round later that day.....?!? I guess it's just not normal to expect a set of towels upon check in. As for the laundry pick-up they told me to call housekeeping again... myself.. that is. The bed and mattrass were probably the worst i have ever had in any hotel, and after a painfull night i checked out from the hotel around 5:30 in the morning. At check out they made me pay for two bottles of water (that i just didn't feel like arguing about at 5:30 in the morning, i just wanted to get out!) that i took from the fidge. These two botles were of a very cheap (the cheapest) local brand and i presumed were complimentary as there weren't any of the useual glass water bottles anywhere in the room. Like towels the previous day this room was probably not on the housekeeping's preferred route. Needless to say that i was so unsatisfied with this hotel that i checked into an other hotel the next day. Given the cheap price when booking through Agoda i didn't even bother cancelling the booking, hense it's only good point.

Staff very friendly, rooms clean, close to everything, quiet.

Internet went down every afternoon and no one seemed to know how to fix it.

We chose the Centara Duangtawan through the reviews of other people on this site and everything that they wrote was true. The staff couldn't have been more helpful, rooms were large and clean, despite being in the centre of the night market we could hear no noise in our room. Comfy beds and pillows, very important! Nothing was too much trouble and our requests were met with a smile every time. Would highly recommend this hotel, it is excellent value for money.

Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : Great bike/car hire place across the road, ask for Rak and a great restaurant on the corner.

Great breakfast, decent views depending on room

Expensive internet

I was on business so I really could have used some unlimited internet access as I typically get in a hotel of this stature. I find gouging internet fees really irritating and wouldn't blink if they rolled it into the rates. My little hang up. The a/c was relatively uncontrollable. It worked but when it got cold I couldn't do much more than turn it off. The airport shuttle is nice and necessary since Chiang Mai has no taxis (or at least VERY few). The breakfast buffet is outstanding with options for all the quirky differences between Asian cultures and American/European ideas on that meal. The location is good for the night market.

Shopping Tip : Across the canal and around the corner is a net cafe 30 baht/hour. Right across the street is a hole in the wall massage place. The 50-something owner gives a wicked foot massage for 50 baht cheaper than the other shops.

good location, big hotel, many facilities

dated, 2nd floor reception

it should be the grandest hotel in chiang mai should it been in the 80's. rooms & bathroom are huge but furniture looks dated. big windows and being next to the night market makes up the tired decor. overall is comfortabl. nice gym n check out the hot tub at the pool.

Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : walk out from the hotel turn right, head straight down and u'll see the ping river

clean rooms

poor lifts

The hotel is very old and the elevators are very slow. There are 24 floors in the hotel and it seems that only one or two lifts service the building. As a result, during peak times, you could wait 10 minutes for the lift only to see it full when it opens on your floor. I booked a deluxe room because I enjoy sitting in the lounge during happy hour. There were about 15 people in the lounge with only one girl working. It took about 30 minutes to get my drink. Poor management. The rooms are very nice and clean. Very large bathroom with modern tub and shower.

Lifts were slow

Very good stay, staff were very helpful and we were given a lvoely room with good views. The pool area is lovely, huge, with plenty of sunbeds and tables and chairs, the breakfast is good, good choice asaian and western with fresh eggs. the lifts were slow, but this could have been due to the fact that two were out of order, but can be frustrating if you are on a high floor!

Nightlife Tip : Chiang mai saloon, Loy Kro, god atmosphere, very competetive prices. margarita 65 Bht and same for a large chang

Fantastic location Cheap Good restaurants Good Breakfast buffet Good pool and pool side service

All grades of rooms except the suites appear to be the same. Doormen are not very attentive Concierge are not very knowledgeable

This hotel is cheap and well placed. In general the staff can't do enough to make your stay a happy one, but the dorrmen and concierge are either not interested or very low on knowledge. Sports area (pool and Gym) are very good and also on site is a SPA facility incuding massage rooms, Jacuzzi, steam room and sauna. Overall this hotel is very good value for money.

Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : In Chiang Mai a Jungle Trek is essential. We did one and loved it, especially the elephant jungle ride and the bamboo rafting. We did ours with Buddy Tours http://www.chiangmai1.com/buddy/ They appear to be the cheapest and I can't reccomend them enough. Also try to book all your excursions on the internet as you could save up to 80%.

1) The hotel is cheap, central and easy to get to. It can be seen across Chiang Mai via it's high neon red sign. 2) It has a very good breakfast buffet. and a good enclosed outdoor pool. The Indoor gym is extensive, steam and sauna rooms are also good and the Jacuzi is large able to fit a large number of people. The jacuzi, steam and saun are provided separatley for males and females from within the changing rooms. 3) The staff are (except the door men) are very attentive and eager to please. (As an example on e of my daughters is vegatarian and there wasn't much vegatarian food on the poolside menu. When we asked about vegetarian food the chef came to see us and offered to make anything on the current menu in a vegetarian format. Not many hotels could have done this). 4) If you intend going on a jungle trek they will accomodate your luggage in safety until you return, even though you're not paying for the room whilst not there. 5) There's a 7-11, a pharmacy and a laundry service opposite the hotel, where you can buy anything you need. 6) Walk out of the hotel and turn right and you're in the night shopping bazzar. Close enough to be able to walk there in under 90 seconds, yet far enough to avoid the noise. 7) Walk out of the hotel and turn left and you will be able to get cheap massages in the evening from around 120 Bhat per an hour!!

1) It's not a 4 star. At best it's a 3 star. 2) There is very little difference between superior, deluxe or Dynasty rooms (not suites), except the floor you are on.

Although the appearance of the hotel's rooms didn't live up to our expectations, we had an enjoyable stay and would recommend the hotel to anyone for price and location. We also took a 2 day trek with "Buddy's Tours" and a half day cookery course with the "Orchid Thai Cookery School", both were thoroughly eenjoyable. Especially the jungle elephant ride which was part of the trek. We used the laundrey service in one of the shops opposite and even gave them our muddy trainers from the jungle trek, all which came back as brand new. My advice to anyone going there would be 1) Book everything via the internet you will save up to 80%. 2) If doing a trek, DON'T wear shorts. Yes you do look better in them and you are cooler, but your legs will be full of Mosquito, plant and the odd wasp stings. Read the treks advice pages they are good advice. Don't take too much with you as it's you who has to carry it. Prepare to get very wet during the bamboo rafting. Take a few resealable lunch bags to keep your valuables in inside your pockets during the rafting.

Great Location, Old building but very tidy

Pay for internet, The staff immediately tried to sell us tour packages which was uncomfortable when checking in

Great location, great pool, great fitness center. It was only a 10 minute cab ride from the airport and a very short walk to the night market and many other city attractions. The city of Chiang Mai is a lot slower paced than Bangkok and much more relaxing. Lots of affordable places to eat right around the motel.

Shopping Tip : Internet cafe and laundry very close by!!

All rooms are the same in all grades except the suites. Doormen and concierge are not very attentive or knowledgeable.

Good well located and cheap hotel. Massages can be achieved for as little as 120 Bhats per hour outside the hotel and the night market is also on your doorstep, yet not close enough for the noise to be a nusance. Very good gym, pool, jacuzzi, saun and steam room.

Hotel Feature Tip : When at the poolside bar you can order anything from any hotel menu not just the poolside menu.

The location is excellent and the breakfast supurb. I ordered eggs Benedictine and they were perfect and were part and parcel of the accommodation deal. The bathroom was opulent.

The hotel is a bit dated ,especially the carpet and the rooms are dark. The bars are well stocked but located in a large area so they lack any sort of cosyness.

The hotel is conveneitnly located nearthe night bazaar and anyone willing to walk a mere ten minutes can enjoy a Thai boxing show or go to a googo bar or night club. The doorman are friendly but the receptionists could do with a course in human relations, they were efficient but all request were routinely dealt with and this is what we would not expect in the land of a thousand smiles. Overall , we would stay again, because of its location and the excellent breakfast provided and all this for a very good price.

Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : Thai boxing is just around the corner, the night Bazaar is a stone throw away, bars and good shopping for antiques are all conveniently located near the hotel.

Even though it is a 3 star hotel, it looks like a 5 star when you enter. I keep coming back and I am sure I will be there next time, when in Chiang Mai.
