Came with a group, each of us having booked rooms exactly according to needs. Separately we all got the runaround at the desk, with staff attempting to convince us our bookings weren't valid or we owed additional fees. Hotel manager was summoned and he gave a completely different (but equally dubious) story. Extremely rude.
Staff is clearly pocketing fees they invent to dupe travelers. We all refused to pay anything and they dropped the act. Upon booking group transport (which never showed up) we were all but told to screw off by a snide bellman. At breakfast an angry faced security guard stomped around checking and re-checking breakfast tickets - basically accusing us of somehow cheating. Why would we do that, and why should we care? Bizarre.
My group speaks Thai fluently so there were no miscommunications. This hotel preys on unsuspecting foreigners.

Older Hotel, but interior architecture very nice
great swimming pool area with large pool, nice fitness room, adequate dining inside and out, close to many attractions and great staff

My room had a nice king bed and had a walkout balcony overlooking pool area. Very pleasant. The room had old wiring with only two holes which made using three pronged devices impossible without adapter. Hotel had a shortage of these. Very easy to bring your own or buy at 7-11 across street. No in-room safes, but staff readily available for lobby area vaults. Dining buffet for breakfast was well prepared and maintained plus outside area allowed for special requests. Large variety of dinner buffet choices as well as menu items. Lobby seating was expansive and very comfortable. Some taxi service not reccommendable, but for tuk-tuk service, a man of the highest integrity can be found at this hotel. His name is Wat. I would reccommend this hotel to a friend and believe your experience would be pleasantly memorable.

Nice, big old hotel,with great pool

Actually, this Superior Room was cheaper and better than the Delux Room I had the week prior. The Delux needed a renovation, particularly in the bathroom. The Superior was more recently renovated and was nicer than the Delux. The downside to the Superior was its slightly smaller size (no big deal) and the lack of bedside switches for lights and TV ( again, no big deal). Given a choice, I would opt for the slightly less expensive Superior, unless you can get a renovated Delux, then I would choose the Delux.
As I stated in a previous review, this is a big hotel and you must be patient with the hotel staff. At times they do get overwhelmed with requests.

Great hotel really bad wifi
The breakfast and the buffet is very very good but again I have to mention the really poor wifi

good and clean hotel, but i wish they would have made it possible for sunbeds on the rooftops since the sun is not lasting that long in the pool area. and again i would like to give a heads up for anyone who have to use the wifi, it can not be trusted!!! only for writing this rewiew i had to log on 3 times because you keep falling out!

we have stayed at the plaza a number of times and it usually represetns good value particularly in the high season when a lot of the other hotels get very expensive as they are filled with tour groups. it has a good pool area the breakfasts are always included although they can be a bit more basic than some others

We were blown away by the lobby of the hotel as there were two traditional musicians playing as we checked it. The staff were very well organized and used to dealing with somewhat large tours and given the chaos at times they handled everything very efficiently. I had requested to borrow a tool to unscrew a lamp I had purchased for a souvenir and the front desk sent the engineer to the room and withing a few moments the task was completed and he was very prompt. All the cleaning people were very proficient and the room always cleaned as to our requests as well. Very close to the night market and the shortcut was just across the street and within a block you were walking into it near the main stage and the club where the lady boys have a nightly show. Lots of good restaurants in the area and to get to the old part of town or Eastgate area it was a 7 block or more walk or tuk tuk ride. Mr. T was our favourite driver as his rig had a Thai flag prominently flying above his tuk tuk and his English and prices were spot on.
Travel tip:
If you are looking for interesting wood carvings and great prices on souvenirs get him to take youto Baan Tawaii as it is an area the Thais arrive by the bus full and the prices were 25 to 50 percent less than the night market and they a flexible as well.

Lovely hotel, good location, friendly staff

My husband and I love this hotel. We stayed there with our one little baby. The price is great and the breakfast is also good. The location is easy to find. Although the hotel looks old, the room is clean. There is super yummy Thai dessert opposite to the hotel, tub tim krob. We enjoy staying there and will come back again in near future. Love it.

The location of Chiang Mai Plaza is just great close enough to the Night Bazaar area but lovely and quiet.
