We stayed at Chiang Mai Gate hotel during the offseason, so it was nearly empty. The staff is very friendly and courteous. The restaurant food is standard fare in Thailand - breakfast is continental or Asian food, nothing exceptional. The rooms were nice though quite small (stayed in the 'Superior'). The pool was being renovated so they had a shuttle service to another pool about 15 minutes away at a student dormitory complex - somewhat disappointing. 'Tom' at the travel reservation desk booked us on our day tours, and did a great job - booking with him is definitely recommended.
Courteous staff, very helpful tour reservation desk
Swimming pool closed (under reconstruction)
- Nightlife Tip : Dinner with local hilltribe entertainers - convenient, cheap and fun!
Chiang Mai Gate - a great place

The hotel was great, our room (standard) was a great value. The staff was helpful and friendly and the on-site travel agent was a life-saver. It's within walking distance of most things in Chiang Mai, but you might prefer to walk less. They do offer a free nightly shuttle to the night bazaar.
Great swimming pool, staff very helpful.
Not a great location.

- Shopping Tip : There is a cheap laundry just in front of the hotel..Try to learn a bit of thai through travellers book to communicate with ease..The taxi's and the tuk tuks charge high rates on seeing Foreigners(FARANGS), so research well before travel.
Still on holiday

Be sure to buy a book on how to speak Thai before going to Thailand. A majority of the locals don’t speak a word of English! There are a lot of good shops around the corner from this hotel. They offer cheap products and services including internet, laundry, taxis and food. We went to the internet shop nearby that charges 40 Baht per hour instead of availing the 100 Baht from the hotel.
- Travel tip : If you are asian, the locals might think you are thai and will offer you a better bargain. Make sure you learn basic Thai sentences.

If you enjoy a nice strong streamed shower, this hotel offers that with a nice warm bath. Also, they have a pretty good selection of tv channels if you feel like just lying around for while and watch tv.
- Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : If you want to do things like Elephant riding, shooting or any other outdoor activities, make sure you make arrangements before hand. You will have difficulty arranging transportation if you want to make same day arrangements.
Excellent value hotel

Location was much better than we expected. Lots nearby and easy walk everywhere. Tuk tuks are out the front so can always get one anywhere if you'd prefer.
- Hotel Feature Tip : Deluxe rooms are beautiful.

You can do laundry cheaper at a small place directly opposite the hotel.
- Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : When you arrive at the airport the taxi driver will try to organise day tours for you and a representative from the company will already be waiting for you at your hotel. Just politely say no as there are numerous tours a short walk from the hotel that are half the price.
