Good location Comfortable beds Pleasing room decor

Pool is tiny Little sense of privacy due to very compact site area When raining heavily, you have to rely on the hotel to arrange taxis at an exorbitant price.

A relatively frequent visitor to Chiang Mai, I am always keen to check out new hotels, especially the many boutique hotels which have recently opened. I selected the De Naga, largely on account of the excellent reviews on some websites. Unfortunately, I did not pay attention to the more recent reviews, and found the hotel did not quite live up to expectations. Nestled in a quiet soi very close to Tapae Gate, the De Naga is in an ideal position for exploring the old town, and the Night Market is just 15 minutes walk away. Plus there are plenty of coffee shops and restaurants nearby if you do not wish to dine in the hotel’s two eateries. Decorated throughout in Thai-style, on first impression the deluxe rooms with their deep red spot-lit wall behind the bed look lovely. I requested and received a room with a large bed which proved extremely comfortable. The bathroom was small although it could have done with a much smaller basin and more shelf space for toiletries etc. Water pressure was excellent for showers, but it took a long time to fill up a bath. The breakfast buffet was adequate but lacked variety. On the plus side, though, eggs are cooked to order. The hotel does have some other drawbacks. I found the service efficient rather than genuinely friendly. Some of the front rooms on the 2nd floor (basically the Ground Floor) may be a little noisy as guests must pass by outside going to and from the lobby. A major drawback for me, the pool is tiny with only 5 sun beds. If you wish to swim, this hotel is definitely not for you. And if you plan on getting a tan, you will have to work out when the sun actually hits the pool and then get there early. Rather surprisingly, the room doors are not self-lockable – so you must always remember to physically lock them going in and out. And I do wish there had been just one comfortable armchair in the room to complement the basic one at the desk!

Restaurant Tip : Moxie, the coffee shop at the d2 Dusit Hotel, is of a very high standard with excellent service and reasonable prices

A modern hotel only two years old with about 70 rooms. The hotel is located on the boundary of the old city and is very conveninet to a large variety of restaurants and night markets. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The breakfasts were very good with personalised service.

It was very hot and humid in the hotel entrance and this restricted the usefulness of the front entrance hall. The swimming pool is a little small but adequate for about 12 people to cool off.

The De Naga is a modern hotel with well trained staff. They also run a training program for youth looking for work and this adds to the personal attention in the restaurant. The hotel is designed as a Thai style building with covered walkways rather than air conditioned corridors. The bathroom was very large and modern and everything worked.

Shopping Tip : Spend time looking in the smaller shops throughout Chiang Mai rather than the large 'factory outlets'. There is a great deal of variety in price and quality.

Good location for Sunday Night walking street, Rachadamnern Road. Very service-mind and helpful staffs. The hotel is not too big and too crowded, very good for quiet family or couple. Easy to go around by red-mini bus, no need to drive. Hotel + room decoration are very beautiful. Free wi-fi in room.

Very few restaurants around that area. Less choices for dining at the hotel. Very small hotel sign which not easily seen, especially when looking for the hotel at night.

We got a very good price for deluxe room during low season and found out that the hotel is provided good services. The room was fully equiped with LCD television, DVD player and internet wi-fi. The hotel is very close to Sunday Walking Street on Rachadamnern Road. We might not stay there if we didn't plan to go to Sunday night street.

nice room, free internet, free beer in mini bar, excellent location

None

Last time I stayed in Chiang Mai I was in Tamarind Villa and Tri Yaan Na Ros hotels. Both was great. De Naga is also a boutique hotel located inside the old city wall. It has excellent location - 10 min slow walk to night market and very relaxed atmosphere inside the hotel. The breakfast was good, the room is standard decorated for boutique hotels in Chiang Mai - in Lanna style. The swimming pool is not so big, but it's great to lay near it with lap top (and wree wi-fi) and drink complimentary chiang beer from mini bar. Hotel staff is helpful

Restaurant Tip : We really liked the Riverside restaurat (just on the bank of the river) - they have really great food. And also we liked The Spice restaurant with Indian cuisine located on the Night market.

Friendly staffs at all times; Convenient located near shops

Breakfast, very little choices.

De Nega Hotel is conveniently located near shops, whereby I can gain access easily. Hotel room is cosy, but little disappointing though as compared for the price I paid. The staffs are very friendly, always willing to help. The breakfast is horrible though, didn't have much choices. Overall is fine as I only stayed 1 night.

Wonderful staff!!! Rooms were nice, beds were a little hard but that's okay they were still comfortable.

A buddy and I got two rooms in April 2009, the staff was wonderful to us and helped us in every possible way. The rooms were very nice and comfortable with a large walk in shower that was very clean and nice. The free breakfast was great, lots of choices and they had the best eggs I had in Thailand, cooked perfectly. All and all if I return to Chiang Mai I will certainly consider staying here again.

Restaurant Tip : Diablo's Burrito's just up the street (go to the main road, cross the canal, and head left...I think it is North). It's just a little ways and has the best Tex-Mex in Thailand.

Location, service, concierge

small, shaded pool

The hotel is well located since it is within the old city walls. There are plenty of places to shop, sightsee, eat within walking distance. We were very pleased with the service. The concierge, in particular, was very helpful and informative. The hotel breakfast was top-notch; we looked forward to it each day. We did have one problem with a leaking air conditioner unit but it was quickly remedied.

De Naga was overall our favorite of around a dozen hotels we used during our month in Thailand. The location is unbeatable. Just a block from the Taiphee Gate and the Sunday market, close to major wats. The room was beautiful and stylish. The staff was terrific in all respects. Excellent breakfast. Free internet. If you like distinctive boutique properties, you will love this hotel. Note that this review is from someone with 25 years in the resort business.

Shopping Tip : Stay on a Sunday and you can walk to the biggest and best market in Chiang Mai

The hotel was in a great, quiet location; the breakfast buffet was excellent; the room was very comfortable; the staff were extremely courteous and helpful; free internet; good value for the money.

There was a pool, but it was way too cold to even go in- which was too bad as it was quite warm when we were there (Feb).

The De Naga Hotel in Chiang Mai is a newish hotel, located within a block of the Tha Pae gate. The decor was simple, but stylish, tasteful and reflective of Thai art and culture. Our room was comfortable and the public spaces were peaceful. The breakfast buffet, laid out in an open air dining room, was fresh, tasty, varied and served by polite, friendly staff. There is a small pool in an inner courtyard of the hotel- the water was too cold to go in while we were there, but it sure looked inviting and refreshing. There were fountains and greenery along the driveway so although we were in an urban area the hotel was an oasis of calm. There was also a new restaurant out by the street with excellent, well priced food- we ate lunch and dinner there a couple of times. We booked a day trip through the hotel- hired a car and driver, to take us up Doi Suthep, who was wonderful, very knowledgable. The hotel staff were very helpful with everything from arranging tours and taxi airport shuttles, to answering questions about local and foreign things and other traveller type queries. Overall and excellent choice of htoels. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it highly!

Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : There was a night market on the weekend, right around the corner. Lots of interesting people, booths, foods etc.

They provide nice service. And hotel location is very convenient where is near Night Bazaar. Only 15 minutes by walking. The room is quiet. The most wonderful is their breakfast, I liked it very much, no matter bread, fruits, or Congee, they are very delicious. Especially their "home made jams".

Great location inside the old town center, friendly staff, great breakfast, clean comfortable rooms.

The smoked glass on the wall between the bathroom and the sleeping area is a popular touch these days but I find it inconvenient. If one person needs to make a bathroom trip it is hard not to wake up the other since the light will shine right into the bedroom.

DeNaga offers a great compromise between the charm of a small, traditional inn and the comfort of a modern hotel. While it appears to be an almost new building, it is built in traditional Lanna style warm wood floors, beams and columns. The large verandas provide cool spaces to sit even on hot days. The dining room has the feel of a temple hall. Our room was quiet, comfortable and good sized. The hotel offers both wireless Internet in the room and free terminals in the lobby for those wihtout a laptop. The minibar is an unusual touch since water, softdrinks and beer are stocked each day free of charge.

Restaurant Tip : Lots of restaurants in the neighborhood, from the popular (but not particular good) "John's Bar" on the corner to a charming and wonderful French restaurant less than 100 feet from the hotel entrance.

Great Location Walking distance to entire old city and night market Fantastic Decor Friendly Staff Good Breakfast Free Internet Access Complimentary Beer and Soda

None

The De Naga Hotel is the perfect place to stay while in Chiang Mai. The hotel and room decor is fantastic. The dragon theme is carried throughout. We were able to walk literally anywhere in the old city as well as to the bustling night market outside of the wall. There where many great small resturants and bars to check out just steps from De Naga. The staff was wonderful and the complimentary soda, beer, and internet was a great touch. We would highly recommend the De Naga to any and all.

Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : You can walk the entire old city to see the sights and wats without ever having to grab a tuk-tuk.

Close to the main road but, very tranquil and peaceful.

The Restaurant was okay but left us looking for more.

The hotel is situated just off the main road, very quite. The personnel were very attentive, and spoke good english. We used the hotel sight seeing accommodations,it was like our own personal guide. Everything was wonderful and they made sure that we were very comfortable. We will stay at the De Naga again.

Shopping Tip : The Sunday market was much closer and better than the night market.

Close to the Old Quarter, Night Market and Wats. The tour operator in the hotel is excellent. Internet is free.

None

This hotel provided us with all our needs. The staff were extremely helpful, in particular they provided us with a room at half rate after we staggered off a 12 bus journey at 6:00am. The room was large and had all the normal facilities. We found that the hotel was in an excellent position, close to the Old Quarter, Night Market and the main Wats. We utilised the services of the hotel tour operator and found her to be excellent. Our room rate included breakfast and we found the restaurant to be absolutely wonderful.

Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : The tour operator at De Naga Hotel is very efficient and provides great service with cheap prices.
