Cutting all ties with any particular style, the "mix bar" is an eclectic gallery that is usable. light glows from structured slits on the ceiling as well as flushing down the columns, making the ceiling look as if it were floating. all these are set to a dramatic backdrop; the long stretch of a luminous wine wall behind the bar.

Entering the space you will be captured with this new sense of dining experience with its unique design. the concept has been carried out with the language of subtle clean lines of the furniture that yields from the architecture that may seem to contradict with the play of richly textured elements but actually accentuates each other harmoniously.

Daily - 6.30 am to 1.00 am

1. Distinctive decor with flashes of orange here and there, but not too overpowering
2. Cheery, informal, knowledgeable and always professional service. The 'Desire' button on the phone (orange again) was extremely well-handled.
3. Location - right next to the Night Markets
4. The ambient music - soft, hip jazz or light techno; none of that James Last stuff.
1. The room may be a bit small for 2 people who are there for an extended period. Place your suitcase under the bed to save space.
2. Smallish pool
To hell with the 'cons' above. This was one of the most enjoyable hotel stays I have ever had. The west-facing rooms have a lovely view across the city to the hills behind Chiang Mai. A cute room and bathroom (no bath)- stylish but not opulent. The restaurant's food is quite good too. But admist all this grooviness is a sense of warmth, friendliness, good cheer from the staff - all delivered in near-faultless English (a bit of a rarity in Thailand). And the clientele? Oddly enough, not the young and trendy, but the Gen Xers mostly. The young staff seem to relate wonderfully to all ages. I myself am 60. If this is the mould for the D2 brand, the Dusit group is on to an absolute winner.
Hotel Feature Tip : 1. Small-ish rooms. But theres place under the bed to put your bags to save space. Lots of hanging space.
2. Daily delights appear in your orange box at turn-down time.
3. Never miss the 2 pm tribute to Cole Porter in the Lobby. It epitomises exactly what this hotel is about.

while i dont vacation too often, i've stayed at various hotels around bangkok and phuket. Phenomenal service. great rooms, great staff, great breakfast, right near night market and easy to catch taxi from, get laundry cleaned, buy souvenirs, and get to the old city.
I can't say enough good things about D2. The staff is more than phenomenal...they almost seem to read your mind about things you want/need. Very personal service and they all knew our names.
Good decision on both trips to Chiang Mai this past year to upgrade rooms and enjoyed the happy hour w/ yummy cocktails and snacks that were more like a delicious appetizer meal and free beverages all day.
The hotel is located in a great location and is one of the most unique hotels in thailand. very funky and modern with cool designs and hotel uniforms designed by Greyhound. Incredible attention to detail. Have a "computer whiz" who helps you with tours that aren't overpriced like many hotels.
Stay here and you'll be coming back to Chiang Mai again and again.
It beats even some of the best resorts in Hawaii, Phuket and Florida.
Travel tip : laundry charge is by piece. there is a laundry place only a 3 minute walk away from hotel that does it by kilo.
