We staryed at Hotel M Chiang Mai for 3 nights and used it mainly as a base to get around Chiang Mai. It is situated right in the wall of the old city so it you plan to get around on foot it is fantastic location. Of course Tuk Tuks, Songtaos and taxis are also available at the door if needed. Feels like a business hotel, rooms are basic and on the smaller side but easily accomodated an extra bed for our children. Bathroom could have been a little cleaner but not terrible. The noise that other reviewers had complained about was not as bad as expected. We were on 4th floor on the wall side but the windows are double glazed and what can you expect from being on a busy road? or maybe we were just expecting worse :)Staff were happy to assist with site seeing and other providing other information.
All in all great hotel if you are just planning to sleep there, great location and friendly staff.

Mean do not expect much if you prefer more you can get from around hotel very easy

Great location, but noisy rooms on wall side
Close to shopping, and night markets.

Nice hotel, but don't get room on the same side as the wall, as you won't get a good night sleep. We had to sit up all night because we could've get my sleep. I went and complained, but they wouldn't or couldn't do anything until the next morning
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip:
Taxis are cheap, to visit the attractions. But make sure you agree a price first if it isn't a meter taxis.

good location,friendly helpful staff. located just inside old city walls across street from tapae gate and on ratchdammoen road "sunday walking street," which is lined with handicraft and food stalls. also good location to get song teows and tuk tuks to travel around city.

Location and friendly staff. Free WiFi was good when so many hotels in Thailand still charge for this.

We found the rooms a bit small and don't recommend rooms on the front which are noisy early morning with traffic noise. Also booking breakfast was a waste of money unless you like Asian breakfast. They had no idea about international breakfasts.
However staff were very freindly and no problem in changing to quieter room.
