- Clean - Friendly Staff - Great Value

- Food just OK - Location

Do not go to the Lanna Mantra Hotel if you want to be in the middle of it all. Its is a little out of the city but that also makes it perfect to just 'check out' for a couple of days. The food is ok so you might want to get a bite in town. Great little gettaway in between the busy life and great value for money.

The hotel scenary, room decoration, & friendly staff. FREE WiFi. Free boat & van shuttle service to downtown (one-way)

A little far from the downtown & airport.

The hotel is located by the Ping River. My room is facing the Ping River--I loved sitting at the balcony to just enjoy the relaxing scenary. The design of the hotel is also very lovely (I liked how they designed the open-area restaurant (with colorful bamboo umbrellas). The staff were also very friendly - they helped me call taxi. The room is very lovely as well, and the bed is super comfortable. However, the wall between two rooms (for some) is very thin. I stayed in a room that has a wooden door (locked) that set between mine and the next door. A couple moved into the next door, and I could hear every single word that they said (not that they always talked loudly, but the wall was too thin that made their conversation so transparent), and I could even hear the coughs and snoring of them. I was not able to stay asleep. I "suffered" 3 nights, and eventually had to request for a room change. They moved me to another room that did not have someone staying next door. So, it's better to check with them when you check in. The boat shuttle (Ping River) to the Flower Market/Warroros Market runs at 10:30AM every day. The van shuttle to the Night Bazzar or the Sunday Market runs at 6PM every evening. They are both free for one-way. You need to take tuk-tuk or taxi back to the hotel. The restaurant food is quite good - not that expansive considered that it's a 4-star hotel. Eating by the beautfil Ping River--such scenary defintely makes the money worthy.

The room itself (river&pool view) was large, quiet and comfortable, with a nice balcony.

But the location is really far from town and is good only if you have a rented car or motorbike. The property is also very small and nothing around for a stroll after meals. Food and transportation prices were a bit too high. The staff was over-worked and tired however they did make an effort. Biggest problem was a lack of basic English skills.

Overall ok and enjoyable but not as competetive as other establishments in town in terms of price/value.

This is a hotel we will come to again. The Lanna Mantra was the most peaceful stay we had in Thailand. It is not in the center of the action, which was a good thing for us. We can go to the action but if it is constantly going on all around us it becomes a bit overwhelming. At the Lanna Mantra we were always treated with friendliness and helpfulness from the staff who were very down to earth and enjoyable people. Our room was excellent - tranquil and clean and had all we needed and then some. The very best part was the beautiful lawn, river and pool. The grounds are immaculate and full of tropical flowers and places to sit in the sun or shade. We were satisfied with the breakfast - a buffet always has it's plus and minus - usually the food not staying warm, wherever you go. The pool was clean and there was plenty of room for people to find a quiet spot, whether on their own personal balcony or down by the river. The dinner was fabulous - excellent food and good prices. We wished we had eaten there more often because you can drive all over to find a place to eat that close to the river with a romantic setting and not find it, except at the Lanna Mantra.

Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : For some, the access to town from the hotel could seem less than convenient (even though the hotel provides free boat shuttle in the morning and taxi van in the evening), and if that is the case, one should rent a scooter. It's cheap, easy and a great way to get around on your own time. Cabs are also not hard to get if you just let the staff know - they'll call one for you. The only thing to keep in mind with the scooter is, you may want to think about also getting a scarf or face mask, as being in traffic can get pretty "exhausty" at times an we both got headaches from the car fumes around us. The night market is a great place to check out and don't be afraid to bargain. The temples are also fantastic. We did the half day jungle zip-line (flight of the Gibbons) as well, which was pretty fun but didn't learn much about the forest etc. even though that was supposed to be part of it.

Quiet and peaceful place. Nice pool and view onto the river. Cute dog

Standard rooms not particularly nice. Tired reception area

Enjoyed our stay at the Lanna Mantra. Initially booked into a standard room, which wasn't very nice, and throughly recommend an upgrade which gets you a far superior room facing the pool, gardens and river. There is an outside gym, although most machines don't work. Very good boat into town at 10.30 every morning, although felt they could have offered more than one bus into town per day. They offer hotel car at other times for 150 baht. Remember to take maps and card for tuk-tuk home as it's suprisingly unknown with the drivers. The pool is nice, although too small for proper swimming, staff very friendly, and food ok. Overall would recommend for affordable good stay a few kms from town

Hotel Feature Tip : upgrade well worth the money

Beautiful hotel and grounds. Great bathrooms/showers. Peaceful location.

A little far from town and taxi's don't run late in Chiang Mai. A tuk tuk is the only alternative.

Beautiful hotel on the Ping River. The staff is wonderful. The hotel is a little ways from town. The hotel offers shuttle service twice a day, but you will need to find a ride back to the hotel on your own. You can usually find a taxi during the day, but taxi’s don’t run very late in Chiang Mai. You may have to take a Tuk Tuk back to the hotel if you are in town after 8pm. The breakfast buffet is good as well as the coffee. The hotel has complimentary internet. We stayed at the Lanna Mantra at the end of the rainy season. I read a previous review that someone was complaining of mosquitos. We got a few bites, but fewer than what we expected for the time of year and the location of the hotel. Most of the bites came when we sat on the patio and in the restaurant at night. Make sure to take the river shuttle to town in the morning. It's a treat.

Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : Hit the Night Bazaar. Be the first or last shopper. You will get the best deals. When in Chiang Mai, rent a taxi for the day and have the driver take you to the Elephant Conservatory and the Tiger Kingdom. There is an outdoor market on the way back that serves the local community and has interesting foods. Massages are cheap in Chiang Mai compared to the South. Make sure and get a massage and follow it with lunch at the Women’s Prison. Both are a treat and are very inexpensive.

Our room was lovely with a great view of the Ping River and pool. The room was clean and spacious. The staff were polite and helpful and left you to your own devices. The grounds are very pleasant and so peaceful. The free boat and taxi service was very useful.

The breakfast was limited compared to our other hotels. The hotel is a little isolated by foot.

We (my boyfriend and I) stayed for 5 nights at the Lanna Mantra. It was our second visit to Chiang Mai and we wanted to stay by the river. We used the free shuttle service to get in to town (15 minutes by car/ 30 minutes by boat)and caught a tuk tuk back - which we adore! Our days/nights were full so the peaceful atmosphere of the hotel was fantastic to come back to. 5 nights' excellent sleep were had!

Shopping Tip : The night bazaar is excellent for shopping and much cheaper than other areas of Thailand - Phuket/Krabi.

Atmosphere, quality of services, location, restaurant, room comfort.

Maybe Bathroom

The hotel is on the Ping River, which gave me an impressive view over the river and the pool. The room was clean, immaculate. The bed was King-sized, nice and comfy, the bathroom is ok. The restaurants are very good compare to thier price. Breakfast is limited but ok. The service of the hotel staff is truly impressive. Coming back to Europe, I realised just how good they were. Finally, the hotel service is better than i expect, the hotel provide free airport pick up, wireless internet, shuttle van to city and shuttle boat to flower market.I know all this sounds too good to be true however if you compare with thier price you will gain more than what you pay.

Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : Mae Sa elephant camp is a good one.

Located on Ping River. Very good value especially for inexpensive Thai food.

None

This hotel is a complete contrast to the clinical modern hotels. 2 Store accommodation set in mature gardens and an ornamental pond. Some rooms available overlooking the river, but not sure if the views warrant the extra cost. No proper restuarant, meals taken on covered terrace. Breakfast menu simple but adequate. Other meals available. Great selection of simple Thai food at very good prices. Not so good if Thai is not your favorite food. No need to change for dinner so travel light. Make sure you use the free, one way, boat shuttle into the town which takes you to the flower market. Nice pool with limited loungers. could be a problem in the high season.

Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : Use the free river boat shuttle or bus shuttle to get you into the city. Have to make your own way back.

Nice pool, clean room, balcony with view.

Far from town and hard to find when you drive or ride a motorbike. Better options would be staying closer to town.

Booked this hotel and was pleased to be picked up at the Airport with a man holding a sign with my name. But had to pay for travel back to the Airport for 200baht. The staff were nice and friendly, and the rooms was comfortable with a nice view. Just too far from town and easy to get lost if you drive yourself in a hirecar or motorbike. All up a nice place with good priced food and garden atmosphere around the hotel. VERY QUIET location.

the rooms are nice and the grounds are well kept. The view of the Ping River from those rooms facing it is soothing.

service from some staff members unprofessional and clueless. Location is inconvenient to town.

Upon arrival I had a positive impression of the hotel and its grounds and a negative impression of the staff. Both impressions were confirmed over the next three days. The staff on my arrival day were unsupervised by a manager. I was told the manager was in Bangkok and the "deputy manager' wouldn't arrive until the next day. Consequently the staff members were engrossed in a English League football game on TV and in personal phone calls. It was if the guests were an afterthought. The rooms are very comfortable, almost like a small suite and somebody is doing a good job keeping up the grounds. The wifi in my room was fitful and after the first day quit working altogether. Somebody did show up to take a look but nothing came of it. The wifi did work near the pool and in their restaurant. On the second day, no one showed up to cook breakfast. The staff member present at the time told me she was sorry. That was an ongoing refrain with her. Actually missing their breakfast was no great loss. It's the all too common single runny egg and a sorry looking hot dog. It's impossible to catch a tuk tuk from the busy street in from of the Mantra. You have to order one or book the hotel's car. Actually, I had no problem getting tuk tuks to bring me back in the evenings- and at reasonable rates since it was low season. The hotel is a inconvenient distance from town but still in a fairly populated area. During the day the dining area can get loud from street noise but the area along the river stays quiet. I think the deputy manager did show up later in my stay and the haphazard manner of the staff wasn't so obvious. I think the problems I experienced are due to the hit and miss qualities of a "boutique" hotel. Right now, 'boutique" is a favorite word in Thailand.

Hotel Feature Tip : this hotel is a twenty minute tuk tuk ride from the night bazaar area in Chiang Mai. After a while that gets to be a chore. If you intend take tours into the countryside instead, that's not such an issue.

Good, clean, spacious rooms/bungalows with balconies, lovely gardens, lovely pool overlooking the river, very friendly staff and so peaceful and quiet

Slightly further out town so need to get taxis constantly. Gym was 2 cycling machines and a cross trainer outside next to the pool (which made us chuckle). The small bar by the pool never opened which was a shame but we were out of season

We felt like we'd found a little gem with this hotel. Amazing value for money and a stunning location overlooking the river. It was so peaceful, mainly because we went out of season, but we just loved it here. The pool is lovely and the gardens that surround all the bungalows are beautiful. Really well kept place with sloping gardens down to the river where you could take a free water boat to the city. Definitely a bit more of a trek out of the city centre (10mins in a taxi) but we loved that, although it meant us constantly getting taxis to and from. The staff were very friendly and you barely noticed them around the place. Rooms spacious and clean with big balconies, our room overlooked the pool and was quite lovely. Breakfast buffet was simple but adequate and a choice of hot breakfast aswell. The gym was a joke, 2 bikes and a cross trainer under a straw canopy next to the pool ie. outside. There was a little bar next to the pool but it looked like it had been shut for some time. Not sure if that was because we were out of season but would have been nice to have had a little bar. Having said that you could order drinks from the staff at reception so not a big deal. Overall fantastic, quiet and relaxing a real gem. Recommend to anyone looking to kick back and relax a bit further out of the city.

Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : We negotiated a deal with the taxi driver who bought us from the airport. He picked us up one day at 9am and took us out for the day for a very reasonable price. We basically just told him where we wanted to go. We visited a reservoir not far from the city and in hindsight we wish we'd spent a little more time there as you could relax on stilted, sheltered gazebo type structures and order local food and drink on the edge of the reservoir. Would make for a very pleasant day out.
