Only ten minutes from the airport, the Mercure has long been a trusted name for quality accommodation. The Mercure Chiang Mai is located a short distance from the walled city and offers a free shuttle bus service to the popular night bazaar. Taxis and tuk-tuks are plentiful around the hotel, and trips to the city’s many attractions from the hotel will set you back no more than a few US dollars. The Chotana City Walk, the latest addition to Chiang Mai’s entertainment scene, comprises a variety of restaurants, cafes, and shops, and is located literally on the hotel’s doorstep. A recently opened western-style supermarket is located just down the road from the hotel and offers inexpensive snacks, beverages, and freshly-cooked food. A good hotel in a quiet location

The Mercure Hotel Chiang Mai is hotel is about 10-15 minutes taxi ride from the airport at a cost of 120 Baht (2.50 GBP) but with prior notice they will provide a shuttle but to pick you up at the airport. It is located about half a mile north of the moat. There is a large car park outside and a supermarket next to the hotel. Bank card machines are across the street. There is nothing of tourist interest in this area of Chiang Mai although having said that quite a lot of the gay venues are north of the moat. Heterosexual nightlife is generally to the south of the moat and a lot of it is around the night market. The hotel runs a shuttle bus to the market but taxi/tuk-tuk’s are relatively cheap. This is not a new hotel but management have made a bit of an effort to keep up to date although in this computer age a few more power sockets near the dressing table or work table would be useful. The rooms were spacious, clean and quite comfortable, in addition to the work surface/dressing table attached to the wall there was a large table and chair as well as a small coffee table. The bed was large and the pillows good. There was two free bottles of water and free coffee and tea making facilities as well. The pool is a good size, well maintained and has an attendant and towels there. There is 24hr room service and they charge 100 Baht (2 GBP) for the shuttle bus to the airport. Having stayed at a lot of different hotels in Chiang Mai over the years this is my first stay in Mercure and since I normally hire a jeep or car when I am here I believe I will use this hotel more in the future rather than the less comfortable hotels at similar prices nearer to the shopping areas.
