Great modern design based on old temple complex. Excellent service. Terrific food. Good large swimming pool. Leafy, quiet accommodation.

Rooms are not overly large. Rooms have small windows, so not much in the way of views.

If you want a quiet, well designed boutique hotel in the middle of bustling Chiang Mai, this is it. The staff are charming and ready to please, even if their English is limited. The food - breakfast, lunch and dinner - is very good. Internet access provided in lovely library. Upmarket vibe and good value for money. Highly recommended.

Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : Oasis spa next door is fabulous for massage or facial.

Incredible staff and service, beautiful surroundings in this private fortress, unbelievable antiques and art work, great food, very nice rooms.

I wish we had upgraded to a larger room, though ours was very nice. nothing was worng with this hotel, just that we had to leave after four nights.

This was probably the nicest hotel we've ever stayed at: a perfectly quiet, zen fortress-like setting, every attention to detail was met. The staff was unbelievably gracious, helpful and lovely. The pool is georgous, the peace and serenity overall was unparalled. What a surprise to find this slice of heaven tucked dfown a small alleyway. The libary is stunning, and housed the computers which were always avaliable. We ate most meals here and were glad we did..they had the best food in the city! I'd make the trip back to Chiang Mai just to stay at this hotel- we adored our stay

Hotel Feature Tip : Ask for the larger deluxe room, had we seen it we would have splurged as the antiques and extra room would have been great. The hotel restaurant was terrific! I could have stayed there all 4 days and never left. don't miss a swim in the pool.

Lovely hotel; authentic Lanna style architecture, beautiful rooms, relaxing pool, high quality very attentive staff and overall a very peaceful and tranquil setting.

Request for a complimentary room upgrade was declined, even though there was only a 20% occupancy rate for the days we were there.

A very charming hotel, designed in such a way that you feel you have the whole place to yourselves. Not cheap, though the complimentary mini-bar, made-to-order breakfasts and free wi-fi help balance the value proposition. Overall a very elegant establishment.

The grounds - the pool, the gardens, the design both interior and exterior, the artwork, the fixtures and fittings are second to none. The piped music throughout the grounds. The bar fridge being FREE. The restaurant food. The rooms. The manager greeting us within 15mins of arriving. It was like living in a temple. The kind staff. The free champagne on my partners birthday. The pick up from airport in luxury aircon car.

Staff not very good at English and slow. The concierge is in the restaurant, so not sure who works in which area. We organised for a spa treatment then dinner after, only to be told, while walking the spa, it was booked out. This was frustrating. So we ended getting a treatment in town, which was half the price and amazing.

Wonderful, lush hotel. A diamond in the rough. It is either this hotel or the Chedi. If you like getting away from it all and being somewhere exclusive, this is your hotel. If you like river side but large complex with lots of people but also 5 star? Go the Chedi.

Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : Hire a car from Journey rentals and visit the hot springs and the jungle. Also, you don't have to keep getting ripped off by the tuk tuk drivers cos everytime to say "the rachamankha" they triple their fee. Don't worry, driving is EASY. Just go with the flow! Enjoy.

Very nice hotel located in the old city centre of Chiang Mai. Very peaceful/zen hotel with most beautiful architecture and antique seen in the north of thailand. Big rooms with flatscreen tv and free dvd available. Very nice library with free internet. We would definitely recommend this hotel to relax a few days at the swimming pool.

Shopping Tip : sunday nightmarket next to the hotel

We loved the personal service. Each room is furnished differently with antiques of Northern Thailand. Breakfasts were delicious and made to order.

None.

We liked the fact that the Rachamankha Hotel was located in the Old City and within walking distance of restaurants as well as some of the sites and Wats in the area. The library, with free internet access, proved handy. It was comfortably set up with a carafe of brandy, travel books, books in many languages, as well as newspapers daily. The concierge was helpful in providing suggestions for sight-seeing too.

Good location Good service and Food

Not as many features as other hotels in the price range - gym etc.

This is a peaceful hotel in a convenient city centre location. The rooms are very substantial and comfortable -simply decorated but stylish in a way you might expect from a Relais and Chateau hotel. Swimming pool very large and clean. The service was very professional. The food was very good - both Thai and European. The wine list was good.

We were awed by the customer service, the layout and energy of hotel--which was very serene--the pool area, the quality of the food and the professionalism of the wait staff.

No money exchange at front desk; faulty air conditioning (it was difficult to figure out how to turn off the lights without turning off the a/c).

From the moment we stepped foot into the Ranchamankha Hotel Chiang Mai, we couldn't have been more pleased. The receptionist at the front desk was amicable, thus leaving us with a very positive first impression. The receptionist walked us to our room, which was standard, and we were thrilled to be staying in such a lovely space. There were two double beds, two armoires, a safe deposit box, several hangers, and a fully stocked bathroom. Every time we ate a meal at the hotel, which for us, was breakfast and lunch a few times, the waiters were not only friendly but also knowledgeable about the menu and willing to go the extra mile to make us happy. The pool area was also beautiful, from the color of the water to the lounge chairs. Chinese antiques were dispersed throughout the hotel, which gave us many unique photo opportunities. There was this serene quality about the Ranchamankha that made us want to extend our stay, which was during the Thai New Year, meaning there was total chaos throughout Chiang Mai, since thousands of people were squirting each other with water guns (part of Thai New Year tradition). We don't know when we will be returning to Chiang mai, if ever, but if we do, we'll definitely choose the Rachamankha, which is telling. This was truly a perfect escape!

Shopping Tip : Definitely go the night markets. We have spent time in Bangkok and Phuket, but made most of our purchases in Chiang mai.

Highly recommended in Chiang Mai! Guest Rating: 9.3

Beautiful, spacious, very friendly and helpful staff. Quiet, private, peaceful. Wonderful dinner in the restaurant, and great breakfasts. Laundry service very affordable. Free access to internet on hotel library computers.

The hotel restaurant is excellent, but there are not other good restaurants within walking distance. That said, it was always easy to find a taxi or tuk tuk for a 5 - 10 minute ride to a restaurant or the night market. Hotel tours a little more pricey than available through other sources.

The place is so spacious it's hard to beieve it only has 24 rooms. It really is even better than it appears on their website. It is in the old part of the city, but in a very quiet neighborhood. Absolutely tranquil and beautiful.

Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : Even though the hotel is small and off the beaten track, every taxi and tuk tuk driver knew right where it was -- transportation to and from was easy.

The environment, layout of the hotel complex, swimming pool, no children, excellant staff, close to everything, great food, nice rooms.

Don't change

This was our second visit to the Rachamankha Hotel Chiang Mai. The place is great for older travellers without children. Favorite hotel to stay in Thailand.

Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : Make sure you visit the zoo. Please note that the food is for local thai's, no sandwiches and the like.

The architecture really does transport you back to Lanna times. The free breakfast is the best i have had anywhere - not buffet - great service.

lunch/dinner is very expensive - some dishes on menu were 800 baht.

The best part of Rachamankha is that the rooms, the doors, the courtyards all aim to transport you back to another time. Yes, the bed is soft, the tv has many channels, the service is good, but the architecture is what makes Rachamankha really worth it. To top it off, the breakfast in the morning is complimentary in a nice courtyard. And the breakfast really is GOOD!
