Quiet and peaceful I was somewhat concerned that finding the hotel would be tough, but Chiang Mai is a small city and all Taxi/Tuk-tuk drivers knew the location. The front desk welcomed us with fruit juice and a wet towel. The rooms are clean and well maintained (I stayed at a Rimping Deluxe). The staff is very friendly and willing to help with trip ideas and arranging transportation. They have pool gear and bicycles available to rent.
Shopping Tip : Walk to the Chiang Mai Night Bazaar. Walk past the hotel using the narrow road, turn left on the main road, and cross over via the "Iron Bridge" to the night bazaar.

free Internet restaurant (other than breakfast) The hotel is East of the old town near the river and an easy (~ 1 km) walk to town. There's no view but they've done a nice job landscaping. The rooms are modest, but clean and quite adequate. It's two story in an L shape so every room faces the interior and the pool. It's off the main road so it's nice and quiet, even during the daytime. There are tables outside the restaurant under a large Banyan tree that make for very fine spots to linger over breakfast. A good base for exploring around the old town, and for day trips to neighboring sites.

Location, Friendliness, Hotel Setup, Breakfast We had a great overall experience at Rimping. The hotel staff was very friendly and helpful. They have internet access in the lobby. The hotel has a nice pool in the courtyard. We had breakfast every morning at the restaurant which was quite good. The hotel's location across the river is tucked into a resi neighborhood but still very close to the market. Great overall.
Shopping Tip : There are small shops everywhere on the streets around the hotel. You can buy soda, water, beer, whatever at these shops a lot cheaper than at the hotel.
