Royal Peninsula Hotel & Serviced Apartment, Chiang Mai

i think the value was good for the amount i payed but the hotel is in bad need of renovation and there seems to be a lack of staff speaking English but i found the staff to be very friendly.The breakfast was below standard the bread was stail the eggs were always cold and the orange juice was water based not real so it left a bad impression on my stay at the hotel

The Royal Peninsula Hotel was a disappointment for me. I booked it on the internet because it looked nice, but did not like it when I arrived. Since I prepaid, I was stuck. There is no good reason to stay at this hotel when there are so many nice hotels closer to, and in, the main parts of town. Everything is a 20 minute to 45 minute walk (not fun in the hotter seasons as you arrive wherever all sweaty), and any transportation is going to be at a surcharged rate as Chiang Mai taxis apparently don't work off of their meters (you can take a tuk tuk--which I don't like because I can't see anything when in one). I had to switch from one "Standard" Room to a smaller standard room because the air conditioners are not strong enough to keep the slightly larger ones cool (during the hot season). On the other hand, the staff is very friendly and helpful, and there is underground parking for those with their own vehicle.

although the rooms are spaceous and the hotel recently opened, you can see the lack of maintenance, e.g. airco in several rooms was broken and had to change rooms in the middle of the night. breakfast/dinner room and bar were under construction and replacement was a bit poor.
