Location very close to night market and getting around the city yet quite.
Very utilitarian - don't expect much in terms of view (there is none).
Rooms are spacious but carpet flooring is quite overused.. very visible stains. Staff do not speak much English. Coffee/tea provided at a charge. Tried to charge us for 1 day of use which was not so. Ate the the restaurant once and the food was very very salty. Breakfast is OK. Good alternative if you have a budget and need to stay long and be close to all the 'Happenings'.
Shopping Tip : Central Airport Plaza - great place with lots of shopping and restaurant at very reasonable price. Fuji Restaurant there serves excellent Japanese food at really reasonable price. Try the massage center inside the Northern Village - very clean and great foot massages!

A great location and pleasant staff.
Minor gripes rather than cons - construction work outside of my wing began around 8am and continued throughout daylight hours. No communal area/bar to intermix with other guests.
I have read other reviews about the breakfast provided in this hotel and I thought the range was better than many other establishments provide and caters to differing "global palates".
The location is 5 minutes walk from the night bazaar and a 15 minute walk away from the old city. If you do not want to walk then Tuk-Tuk and taxis are widely available.
The distance from the train station is 50 minutes walk - and about 15 minutes thru the early morning traffic in a taxi.
Accommodation standards are adequate to good for the price paid. Some features could do with updating such as the room carpets which look "used". But overall nothing I experienced would put me off staying here again.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : Take a trip into the outskirts of Chiang Mai to Wat Umong - has a rustic setting rather than urban and some nice Buddha statues.

Slightly old. Breakfast very basic.
This is the 2nd time I've styed here. The location is perfect if you want to visit the night market. Rooms are clean and functional with some cable tv. There was a building under contruction next door which won't really bother unless you are planning to spend all day in the room. Breakfast is not a highlight, featuring toast, eggs and mini sausages. Coffee is dire.

Free Wireless internet in the lobby. Nice quiet room (deluxe), large bed, and good location, all for a good price.
No free wireless in the room.
I would definitely stay here again!
Restaurant Tip : Pantip Plaza is located within a hundred meters (to the right) of the hotel and has a very good restaurant on the first floor and many inexpensive electronics shops.

Very clean, size of the rooms are ok, very good location (quiet yet convenient), the night markets are just a few minutes walk.
Breakfast menu (no change for a few days), no lights at the front entrance at night. As the location is quiet therefore walking back to the hotel in the midnight is quite 'scary'.
We are satisfied with the overall standard of Chiangmai Star Hotel which is value for money for its good location, clean and comfortable environment. We reserved 3 rooms for 3 nights however when requested for an extention of 1 night, the staff is willing to give us a very good price. You may enjoy the live band in the Suriwongse Hotel (same management)which is located side by side.
Shopping Tip : The night market is just few minutes walk from the hotel, can shop till you drop!

The room is clean and the room rate is reasonable.
The food is almost the same everyday.
I stay at Star Hotel for 5 nights with my wife. We like the hotel as the room is clean, the room rate is reasonably priced, and the hotel is strategically located (within walking distance to night bazzar and Ansura market).
The only thing we don't like is that the food is almost the same everyday. We are having the same breakfast buffet every moring. And at night, when we want to try the steamboat buffet, we are informed that they only serve chicken soup. They should also serve Tom Yam soup for those who love to try the authentic Thai favour.
Restaurant Tip : For those who want to try Thai food at reasonable price, you may want to visit the following places:
1) Centra Airport Plaza: The food court at ground floor.
2) Khalera Shopping and Food Centre at the night bazzar. There is also free cultural shows at night.

Near to night bazaar and easy to find food as well & at very reasonable price if you are not looking into very high class hotel.
No room service & have to pay 50 baht for coffee & tea set which other hotels served for free.
Me & my wife got to know this Star hotel at agoda website which we find that the prices are reasonable & useful. We book Star hotel and what i like most was the special request options part cause our flight to chiang mai was bangkok time 0710 hrs and arrive at 0820 hrs and we arrived at the hotel at around 0900 hrs. normally hotels don't check guest in till noon but when we book it on agoda special collumn, they immediately check us in. thanks mate, cheers!

Complimentary to the customer in room must have free 2 bottles drinking water and 1 set of coffee.
The hotel is good. The location is good and they have small car park. The staff are very hospitable and accommodating. They rendered us a good service. At the reception area they offer food and drinks.
Shopping Tip : Near the handi craft products.

I gave sports shoes for cleaning: not only it took them 2 days to clean, when I got them back they were all wet and not really clean.
Normal laundry service was ok, but can be found cheaper outside hotel.
Close to night market and within walking distance to the old city. All you need (motorbike rental, restaurants, travel agency, laundry, ...) can be found outside the hotel along Thanon Loi Kroh.
Breakfast buffet is ok, but not really big choice.
In August 2008 there was construction work going on just on the south side of the hotel. However no noise immissions in room (at least during night).
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : Book an adventure trip: e.g. hill tribes, elephant ride, white water rafting, bamboo rafting. Well organized and plenty of attractions in just one day.

Had free Internet (a huge plus), and when you walked in there was free coffee/juice, and some little cookies to eat. You got two free waters, free breakfast, close to night bazaar.
Rug was kind of dirty in the room, room was a bit dark with the amount of light.
Hotel was about a block away to the night bazaar. Great hotel for location, and walkable as well to the Sunday walking market too. They had two computers in the lobby where you could go on the internet free, a huge plus. The staff were nice, breakfast just regular- buns, eggs, sausage, ham, toast, and some days they had cereal (we stayed for three nights). A bit hard to find. Behind Suriwongse Hotel, looks like it's kind of like an alley way.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : Block away from the night bazaar, a whole street of stands, as well as a whole array of Western restaurants, e.g. Starbucks, Burger King, McDonald's, 7/11.
