location is excellent, central to night market and shopping.

hotel is run down and DIRTY. Very slow lifts. Staff smiled a lot but disinterested in fixing problems.

I picked this hotel becaues of its location. The room was large but mattress was very hard, typical of Thailand beds. The bathroom was dirty. the tile grouting over the bath was black with mould as was the sealant around the wet areas. The carpet in the hallway and the room were unclean around the edges and corners were discoloured with dirt. I told the staff both orally and in writing (pleasantly) but they were completely disinterested. To be fair I believe the staff had heard it all before as each floor was the same. Breakfast was very ordinary. I was charged 50baht per day for the tea and coffee sachets supplied on checking out!

Travel tip : This is a good location to explore Chiang Mai from. Easy walking distance to old city and temples and in heart of night market and great eating areas.

Not bad location; if you're lucky you may get a nice room

Unfriendly staff for the most part. My first room was horrendous: mosquitos galore coming out of the woodwork (or more likely the drains in the very worn down and dingy bathroom); bad decor; view onto ugly building and the pool that is no longer in use, has been torn up.

I have been traveling in Thailand for a month, and this was by far the worst hotel I stayed in through my travels, through Agoda.com. This was upper end in price, so I assumed it would be a decent stay--boy, was I wrong. The only nice thing to say is that they had a nice breakfast buffet (although watch out for people coughing on the food--the place is huge and seems to service a lot of people) and gave good evening entertainment with a band with all members singing very well.

Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : I recommend going to see the elephants at the Conservation Park and Hospital in Lampang; also a Thai cooking course with the kitchen known as "Pad Thai".

I like the hotel,it is clean, the locattion is great

I dislike that you have to pay for the internet access.

this hotel is very good,it is clean and nice and confortable.very close to the trains and a nice park, also near all the big malls.I think the internet should be free just like most of the smaller and much cheaper hotels in bangkok..

Comfort, location, affordability, great service and very good food.

No pool

This was a great find for us. We have stayed in Chiang Mai before in a similar location, but the Suriwongse Hotel is great value for money. The accommodation is excellent! We were upgraded to a Suite on the sixth floor which was very well appointed, comfortable and the room service, just great. The location, right in the middle of the night markets and within easy walking distance to the old city makes this hotel a great option for families, couples and groups. The Hotel has a good restaurant, Bistro and bar. Additionally, there is a good Internet Cafe and two tourist desks. We thought that the service was friendly and efficient and all of the staff we met were helpful. The Bonus was the Friday Night Food Fair which for 100 baht per person provided a good opportunity to try North Thailand Cuisine. I was so impressed with the attentiveness of the staff, the quality of the food and value for money. I have advised my friends to stay at the Suriwongse Hotel when next in Chiang Mai, as we will.

Shopping Tip : Best location for the Night Markets and the Old City

right on night bazaar road, easy to get transportation anywhere at anytime, close to restaurants

staff was not very helpful and seemed to have trouble with English, room was outdated and bathroom was in desperate need of updating. Room facing street was noisy all the time.

If you want to be within walking distance to fast food, night bazzar shopping and 24 hour transportation than this is a great place for you. If you care about relaxing in you room, enjoying peace and quiet this is not a great choice. The road noise was loud and the room was long over due for updating. It was not what we had expected compared to other hotels right there.

excellent service, suites are good value for money, spacious and comfortable

old style hotel with a 60s/70s feel about it rather showing its age, standard rooms are adequate (just )

this older style hotel is well situated close to the night market, the standard rooms were below par poor dated showers and no room safe ( there are safe deposit boxes in reception )and we upgraded to suites for an extra 1000Baht per night. Suites are spacious and very comfortable with good showers and bath with room safes. Service was always prompt and excellent, good variety of food available for breakfast with 24 hour room service. Hotels Bistrot (sic) restaurant very good food and service. Reception staff very helpful, giving good tourist advice.

Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : good choice or tours available in hotel, boat ride, elephant safari, temple tours etc

booking in was fast and friendly. Could not fault the staff. Breakfast is a gourmets affair. It's just very nice indeed. I would have gained a few pounds while there. Position of the hotel, practically in the center of the night bazar, is fantastic. Management upgraded us from Superior to deluxe room. The room was huge. Fresh linen daily.

The hotel is in need of a good renovation. Carpets are grubby looking, Bathrooms could do with an overhaul. There is a feeling of neglect.

The overall atmosphere in the hotel is good. As I stated before, the food is excellent, the staff is friendly and helpful. Should I visit Chiang Mai again, I would stay at the Suriwong again. Can't understand why everybody calls the Hotel Suriwong yet on their stationary it's called Suriwongse.

location, location, location

hotel a bit old, air con not fantastic, food unimpressive

We stayed for a week and enjoyed the experience overall. The location of this hotel is reason enough to stay - it is in the heart of the night market, right next door to Starbucks. The restaurant food is disappointing and the staff weren't very friendly but it is so much easier/cheaper/better to eat outside of the hotel anyway. Oh, and the "Welcome Drink" you're told to claim at the bar after arrival is a choice of apple, orange, or pineapple juice. The tour operators in the lobby were great - we did one to an elephant camp and one up to the Golden Triange.

big room, clean room, near night market, helpful staff, great breafast

None

this hotel had a good location, good clean rooms and helpful staff. the breakfast was wonderful and the hotel is clean. there are ample taxi's and tuk tuk's waiting outside for your convenience. i did not try the spa or the swimming pool however that latter appeared clean. the staff at the travel agency downstairs was honest and helpful when it came to excursions however i booked mine with an alternate company. the hotel was full of singles and families.

Shopping Tip : down the street near on the market are several artists who draw pics with carbon. beautiful and there is a UPS in the same building. i purchases 3 photos and they arrived at my home in 4 days.

Location of hotel is near shopping area, room size big enough, staff and service is ok.

Mosquitos is a trouble and no free coffee in room.

This hotel is locate in very convenient area, near night bazaar and in walking distance toward Sunday market and warorot market( must go). Restaurant is every where in this area even toward riverside- restuarant only 15min by walk. It also heve free shuttle service to Airport Plaza. Room size is big enough for this price but the king size bed is joined by 2 beds. The only problem is mosquitos but i think every place i go in Chiang Mai also have mosquitoes. Hotel does not provide free coffee so better buy yourself or just drink during breakfast. Breakfirst is the same everyday but taste is ok. So this hotel is recommended at this price unless you looking for 5 star standard.

Shopping Tip : Warorot market must go and also sunday market.

Very central and is close to almost anything a tourist may be looking forward to. Ideal for a short stay where a tourist only wants to take in everything quickly without having to use any form of transportation.

Need to improve on cleanliness and service to customers. It may be a disappointment for a strict customer who expects something more than the average traveler expects.

An acceptable 2-3 day stop over for an average traveler passing through Chiang Mai. Certainly not a place for the business traveler who expects better services. Because the hotel is not a high rise building, there is not much view for the client who expects and hopes to see more of the area surrounding the building.

Restaurant Tip : Close and within walking distance to many foreign restaurants & pubs. Easy to shop around but there's a lot of bargaining to get anything reasonably cheap.

Very close to the Sunday Night market & night markets. Close to restaurants.

Very old hotel. Needs a bit of a make-over.

Carpet in the rooms need to be changed. They look like they are dirty. The staff were excellent, they attended to our needs promptly. Very good location. Close to night markets, restaurants, shopping. Breakfast was good, but we were not very impressed with the dinner. I did not like the idea that we have to pay for the tea & coffee in the room!
