Location and hotel grounds.
Like most resorts the cost of spa treatments or hotel supplied transportation was excessive compared to what you can get outside the door.
The location was excellent, just outside the hotel gate was the Sunday Market, but while inside it was quiet and tranquil. Could not believe I was in the old city.
The staff was attentive and seemed genuinely interested in your comfort and relaxing or having breakfast at the restaurant next to the pool was a pleasure.
Shopping Tip : Don't miss the Sunday market, but bring comfortable shoes it goes on for blocks.

Location in the center of old Chiang Mai.
Sits back away from the streets, so ZERO traffic noise.
Very good breakfast selection, was free with room.
The Sunday Evening Walking Street Night Market takes place directly in front of hotel, and is probably one of the best in Thailand.
The peace and solitude of this place is overwhelming.
Dogs barking on an adjoining property early each morning detracted from the otherwise usual peaceful tranquility.
Tour packages offered by hotel were limited to only a couple of operators.
Rude smokers liked to light up at the tables setup in the entrance to the restaurant, and this smoke cloud just drifted into the restaurant proper.
My 2nd visit in the last year for this place. Not a large complex, but small and cosy. Yes cost is higher than some surrounding hotels, but the tranquility and service makes up for it.
If you like street market shopping, you only walk out the front entrance and there are several hundred vendors set up. Hill tribe crafts were less than a third the price found in Bangkok.
We will stay here again when we return next fall.
Shopping Tip : Schedule a stay over Sunday. The Sunday Evening Walking Street Market is fantastic.

Great quiet location, authentic Thai boutique feel with lots of character, excellent service
The only con was that its not especially close to the night market, although its a quick tuk-tuk ride away.
I would recommend this hotel to anyone staying in Chiang Mai. The hotel is well located in the Old City, yet feels like a quiet retreat. The service was impeccable and they went above and beyond to accommodate any request, including providing us with a boxed breakfast when we left for a tour before the buffet started one morning. Our included breakfast was lovely and the rooms were outstanding. Tamarind Village had the most comfortable bed of our entire stay in Thailand!
