Lovely hotel but very noisy
7.3
Lovely, however it was extremely noisy. Also breakfast was not the best. The food as cold and the eggs weren't cooked.

Lovely hotel in a great location
8.7
this was the first hotel i stayed at in thailand that had a soft mattress. all the rest felt like i was sleeping on the floor! it had lovely rooms with big windows overlooking the pool and inner courtyard, and each room had a nice balcony too. the staff was friendly but didn't speak the best english, but they were eager to help and didn't seem too intent on making a profit from any trips they organized for us. they arranged a taxi driver to take us up to doi suthep, and then we asked the same driver to take us to the mae sa elephant camp and the tiger kingdom the next day (loved the tigers!).
the hotel had a bar and breakfast was included, which was simple but good. the pool was pretty but a bit chilly (chiang mai has cooler weather than further south). it is located on a side street that some cab/tuk-tuk drivers may not be familiar with, but we never had a problem getting dropped off at the end of the street. only drawback was that many cabs wouldn't actually go down the side-street, so we had to drag our luggage down from the main street, but it isn't too far so not too big a problem.
the restaurant across the street had really good panang curry. i think it's called the t lounge.
one night there was a huge storm that knocked out the power, and unfortunately the hotel didn't manage to get it back on until after noon the next day, so we couldn't take showers or flush the toilet. hard to say if that was just the hotel's problem or if that's a normal thing for the area, so i can't really hold that against them. anybody else have a similar problem?
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip:
Since the hotel is located on a side-street, it might be helpful to have the address printed out in Thai for your taxi drivers. It's on the hotel voucher Agoda sends you after booking, so I just copy-and-pasted it into a Word document so that it was easily readable for the drivers.

Lovely hotel and great rooms
best feature/ great beds and a nice little balcony
8.3
The pool area is in the shade, so very cold and very little sun as well in this area, so never any sun as you used the loungers...
they had 4 chairs on one side that got a bit of sun in the afternoon.
No room service.
The breakfast was okay...Coffee was delicious.
The beds were changed daily and rooms cleaned nicely.
Great location..Just off the Sunday market..Still--very peaceful and lovely. Highly recommend.

Great Location
Small, clean, lovely environment
8.7
This is a great small hotel located in the old city in Chiang Mai. Easy walk to many great places with a relaxed and friendly feeling. Lovely breakfast area. We would definately return to Vieng Mantra. We had 2 rooms - 2 flights up overlooking the peaceful pool area. Stairs were no problem for us but should be pointed out for those that need lift access.
Restaurant Tip:
Restaurant opposite Vieng Mantra has fantastic fresh river fish - salted and cooked on the bbq - highly recommend it!

Great Little Hotel, Excellent Location
Nice pool and lovely patio area to while away the afternoon on
8.3
we were a family of three staying in two rooms. it had come as a recommendation from a friend and we found it very comfortable and convenient.
the rooms are of good size with nice beds and a good size bathroom. the pool are is pretty though shaded much of the day.
the breakfast was ok, most people seemed to partake each day.
location is great! right at thae pae gate so close to markets, restaurants, etc.
helpful staff
Restaurant Tip:
We walked down the Soi to Black Mountain Coffee each morning for an excellent cup served with little cookies and a tea chaser.
Eat at the restaurant right across the street. Delicious and fun.

brilliant hotel. fantastic location and staff

This hotel is small and quaint. Every room has a balcny that overlooks a beautiful pool. The staff, particularly the two service boys are brilliant. The hotel is in a great location close to Sunday markets and the size makes it feel like home.
Travel tip:
Close to Tha pae gate and Sunday Markets and most of the activities in Chiang Mai.

Great Location, Good Price, Hotel So So...
Bang Right in the Tourist Location and also for Sunday Walking Street
5
i used a red pick-up truck taxi to get to the hotel. it was easy enough. the street entrance gave quite a bad impression but being just one behind the main street makes it seems a bit safer. hotel itself is so so. the room is quite to the minimalistic size. quite woody, to be expected from chiang mai's interior (boutique). the bed room is suffice with all you need from normal hotel. the breakfast is so so; always the same and not so nice. some staff are helpful but some can't be asked to even try to give you any assistance; most of them are engulfed in their smartphones either watching tv or chatting with friends on facebook. in summary; for the price, location and quality given; i would give it a 5.5/10. i feel i could find other places cheaper and with similar quality.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip:
use the red pick-up truck but be aware to agree price before hand, bargain sometimes... within old town you can do it with 20 baht per person... if you decided to go up the hills go with different types of transport as you could get motion sickness and suffocation from car exhaust (should you decide to go during high season).

Good location let down by poor service
Location, quality of the rooms
4.7
The location of this hotel is very convenient- being near the main gate of the old city. The rooms are good standard with nice decor. Anyone who values privacy will NOT appreciate the balconies as they look into each other. When the curtains are open or when you are on the balcony you feel that you do not have any privacy. The lady who checked us in and out was very abrupt, rude and unprofessional. Had to ask 3 times for an ashtray (there is a sign in the room saying ashtray on balcony- but none was provided). Asked for new batteries in remote control for TV- and they didn't bring it back until prompted- twice. The other staff were clearly not trained in giving professional service, although attempted to be friendly. Breakfast was cold and very limited choice. I feel i should be able to get better than this for the amount that we paid.
