Home like, guest house style of accommodation. Nice if you want to stay close to Chiang Rai downtown area. Lots of food vendors nearby. It's like staying in a friend's home.

Cheap, Clean, Friendly Guesthouse in Chiang Rai

I booked two nights in this nice guesthouse in Chiang Rai before heading off to Laos through Chiang Kong/Huay Xai, and I really enjoyed my stay at the Baan Norn Plearn. First, the owner is a very friendly lady and will do everything in her power to help you and make you comfortable. Her husband is responsible for the Guesthouse's security and is also very friendly and helpful. Rooms are big, clean, and cheap. One notable thing is that the breakfast is included in the room, but you'll have to prepare it yourself! I found that quite interesting. They have one big common Kitchen where you'll find anything you need in the morning: Milk, cereals, bread, rice, eggs, meat, and kitchenware so you can cook your own breakfast, western or thai style. Furthermore, the guesthouse has free bicycles you can use to discover this charming little city and its main attractions. The Night Bazaar is a 10-15 minutes walk, and many hip bars are a minute walk away from this guesthouse, if that's your thing. Don't miss the big golden clock light/musical show around 5-7 (Not sure about the time, look in your Lonely planet or ask around! It's something you must see!)
