Great location just moments from the village, across the road from the Mekong, with views from all rooms. Beautiful lawn garden cutting back into the forested hills. Well maintained building, sensible rates.

Not much, large balconies are not so private due to their stepped design, not so many non-smoking rooms, rooms have tea and coffee but feel a bit smaller than average. Plumbing noises are evident.

The Imperial is a very relaxed place to have a getaway or family holiday. It is about 10 years old, 5 floors and in Thai style. Everything works. The rooms look up the Mekong river valley to Myanmar and Laos. The place is more about comfort than luxury. The pool is standard rectangler and a bit worn, but is set in a carefully maintained garden boarded by the dense forest and steep hills. It would make a great par 5! There is a ping pong table, bring your own boule and badminton. The hotel location, at the end of the Golden Triangle strip, means the attractions of this compact 100% tourist village are easy to find on foot. Restaurants range from 5 star at the new (in 2009) Serene hotel ( the luxury option in the village, perched on the river's edge, with Bangkok prices to match) to basic Thai food stalls lined up along the river around the enormous Golden Budda. The Imperial has an excellent large restaurant with good outdoor seating available and will do special Lanna dishes on request. Note that the Golden Triangle is about 15 minutes drive from the working port of Chiang Saen.

Good reputation of Local Hotel brand so the I can expect the good standard from every where they are. I've stayed in Imperial Hua Hin before and I know everything gonna good likes Hua Hin.

It's a bit old since it's been opened for years, it's time to renovate.

It's convenient and get good deal with agoda.

Hotel Feature Tip : I really love the swimming pool surrounded by nice garden.

We think that the location is good because the hotel is oppisite to the triangle which we could easily walk to the travel boat.

Quietness, Tidiness, Cleanness, Careness & Smile.

Sound from the water pipe system from nearby room - bathroom.

The place was good, sufficient and OK for us, things went well - from the smiles from receptionist to the clean, comfortable, warm, quiet, satisfied room. Also we enjoyed the quietness of morning (result from the less people renting). We found some annoying sounds from water pipe system in the nearby room (behind the wall) - made us disturbed and woke up.

Nice Location, don't expect miracles though Guest Rating: 7

Great location Nice view Decent Swimming pool

Breakfast is quite a standard buffet breakfast that you receive in Thailand typically While rooms are in okay condition , they are not in fantastic shape

Enjoyed the nice views from the room's balcony. All rooms have great view to mekong river and golden triangle. Slightly annoyed by loud neighbors, as the our room had connecting door (locked, but not so good noise insulation)

Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : Near the hotel there is an immigration desk just next to minimart where you can take a boat to Myanmar side to visit the casino. Difficult to notice, it does not look like typical border control. Out of the hotel, turn right, walk 30 meters. It costs 10 USD on both borders to visit the casino. Possibly interesting, although 20 usd is stiff charge. don't forget yr passport.

Great location in the town of Sop Ruak. Nice size rooms.

Carpeting was musty

Great location in town of Sop Ruak with a beautiful view of the Mekong. Walk to the bottom of the driveway and restaurant and shops galore (with lots of northern handicrafts) and a beautiful temple right on the river. The rooms were large staff very friendly, and a nice breakfast buffet included in price. The main downside was the musty smell. Rooms have carpeting, which I think in that kind of climate, would be hard to avoid smelling musty.

Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : Beautiful view of the Mekong and good for older travelers (I was with my 84 and 86 year old mom and aunt). They loved the fact they could walk down into town and shop at the stalls.

Great location, beautiful view of the Mekong, large rooms

musty smell

Located in Sop Ruak the hotel has a beautiful view of the Mekong. The room was large and bathroom clean. It's a good hotel for older travelers w/ air con, good restaurant, and other amenities. I was traveling with my 84 and 86 year old mom and aunt and they loved the fact that they could walk to the bottom of the driveway and there were restaurants and northern handicrafts stalls right there. Great breakfast buffet. The biggest drawback was their carpeting caused the room to be very musty smelling.

Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : Beautiful view of Mekong from room - be sure to spend time at the temple on the Mekong, lots of shopping for northern handicrafts

Nice views, right at Golden Triangle Good breakfast Pleasant, sizeable, clean rooms Several local (walk) restaurants offering reasonably priced good food

Isolated location (Nam Rauk not Chaing Saen) Local taxis expensive (captive market) Long way from Mae Sai (40km) and Chaing Rai Internet is charged (it should be free) Walls to rooms are a little bit thin, but not too much of a problem

The hotel is quite pleasant, but its isolated location (in Nam Rauk, not Chaing Saen) is a drawback as there is not much to do. There is more in Chaing Saen, but that is 9km away. However, although the taxi's are expensive, bikes are fairly cheap to hire. It's about 40km to Mae Sai which is quite a way to go to Tachiliek and on to Kengtung in Burma. Overall not bad though, would prbabaly stay there again, if not in Mae Sai itself.
