Staff was pleasant and gardens were lovely. Breakfast was good with a nice view from the restaurant.

The bamboo huts look nice in the garden atmosphere, but they are still just bamboo huts. There is nothing luxurious about bamboo huts... you can see thru gaps in their construction which means there are as many bugs on the inside as outside... and there are LOTS of bugs on the outside due to all of the gardens. There is NO TV, internet, or refrigerator in the room. Also, since most of the windows had only screens (no glass) it was miserably hot, unless standing directly in front of the A/C (yes, there's A/C with screened windows... must be a heckuva power bill!) There's also no insulation in the walls or roof (again, you can see thru gaps in the walls) and you can literally hear your neighbors breathing hard! Not much privacy! On top of this, what was probably once a great view from the rooms, now looks down upon one or two other resorts... although the restaurant still has a pretty good view since it's a bit around the corner from the other resorts.

The bamboo huts look nice in the garden atmosphere, but they are still just bamboo huts. There is nothing luxurious about a bamboo hut and this is my biggest problem with my stay at Phu Chaisai. I frequently stay in bamboo huts at the beach and recognise their limitations in construction with keeping the bugs on the outside and the cool air on the inside. But the website for Phu Chaisai and their description on Agoda led me to believe that their accomodations were luxurious. Bamboo huts generally cost around 1000 to 1400 baht per night ($30 to $40 U.S.) Phu Chaisai charges several times more than that, but what you get is a bamboo hut. Again, I have nothing against bamboo huts. But there was nothing luxurious about my stay at Phu Chaisai... again, you can see thru gaps in the walls... which means there are lots of bugs of just about every type inside the hut. And again, there is NO TV, internet, or refrigerator in the room. So where's the luxury? This was by no means a horrible stay, but I guess I feel a bit deceived.

Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : Beautiful drive out past Mae Solong... in fact, I will probably stay in Mae Solong on my next trip. Please note Phu Chaisai is located very remotely... you will NEED to have transportation. We rented a car from Pholsak Car Rent in Chiang Rai for 900 baht per day... they picked us up at the airport and provided a nice car for the value. The drive from Chiang Rai to Phu Chaisai is probably 50Km or so.

Excellent service and hospitality Beautiful setting Quiet

They need some daily specials on the menu for variety.

We stayed 3 nights and this resort and had a wonderful experience. Rustic but very neat and clean with an emphasis on eco-enviroment and self-substainabilty. Staff are all very friendly and helpful. Food is good but has limited menu. The Spa was 50% discounted so we utilzed daily with excellent treatments. Would highly recommend this stay if visiting the Chiang Rai area.

This is the most perfect an idyllic place we have ever stayed! The location on the jungle clad hilltop is stunning, and the amazing rustic but modern design and craftsmanship of the place makes the feel and soul of this beautiful retreat so very special. The magnificent and kind staff, the ever happy hotel owner, and even the lovely elephants will make your stay unforgettable. P.s: keep this place a secret!

Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : Take the mahout training, use the spa and pool and go bamboo rafting!

View, Food, Service, Rooms, did I mention the View?

Some rooms and areas are a little under maintained, unheated pool

Simply the most amazing resort. Great value for money, good locale - about an hour from every point you'll want to hit in Chiang Rai. Great knowledgeable and friendly staff - great food.

Hotel Feature Tip : do upgrade to the "executive" suites and reserve tables for dinner and breakfast... a romantic secluded area can be arranged for dinner at sunset for a small fee - but check the weather as it can get cold

The weather was perfect. We were surrounded by true nature; very peaceful, serene, genuine natural resort (with beautiful plants & flowers). Very clean room, friendly staffs, absolutely pollution free environment. Romantic sunset scene from the room. Organic vegetable garden. Very delicious restaurant & excellent ambiance.

A bit quite far from city.

My husband and I travelled there during winter in Thailand. It was absolutely perfect, we loved everything there. The weather was very cold (no heater in the room, but they provided enough blanket and hot water). The staffs were friendly and helpful. The resort was very gorgeous, surrounded by hills and natural scenery; we had a wonderful time looking at the sunset from our room and in-taking all the fresh air. But you absolutely have to rent a car if you want to stay here as it's far from the city.

good environment and view

a bit decline and because this hotel is very isolated if you dont have car it's quite difficult to go.

We stayed at love nest. The room is very big and has outdoor tub. A bit cold in the winter time. Good for couple.

Restaurant Tip : go to Doi Mae Salong and try yunnan pig leg at the chinese restaurant.

The cabins were very comfortable-rustic elegance and we especially enjoyed the tub on the deck. Units were private with great scenic, greenery views. (there is a new resort, built by owner's brother across the hilltop) The food was reasonably priced and tasty, with a terrific setting around a koi pond. The spa looked terrific but a bit pricey. There were hikes to take on the property with great views. The landscaping was terrific.

The only drawback was that we were dependent on their drivers to arrange tours-and these were expensive. I recommend renting a car to get here and then tour. No waiting taxis are around.(We are quite isolated, high on a mountain-but that makes it special)

The hotel has stunning views, a restful ambience good food, activities and beautiful accomodations. We especially enjoyed the hot tub on the deck and privacy. The units were built into a hill and the landscaping and gardens were great. We got a good feel for the Chiang Rai area staying here. Recommend renting a car so you are not dependent on their transportation. I would stay here again.

Travel tip : elephants on premises and good hikes

I have traveled the world for 30+ years. Never have I seen a place like this. Each room is made of bamboo so you can feel the nature's touch. Although made of bamboo, the room amenities/facilities are so modern and extravagant. Each room has a round marble bath that fits 2 people comfortably. The view from the balcony is breathtaking. Each room is carefully designed so that you can't really see anyone else. It's as if you are the only guests there.

It can't be help that mosquitoes live well in the bush. There are a few sachets of insect repellent in your bathroom. Make sure you have it on in the evening.

Apart from the unbelievably grand facilities, the staff here are so friendly yet so professional. You will feel like a king/queen here. Try a few of their activities. Walking, elephant trekking, cooking, pottery class or simply dip in the swimming pool. The spa is also good although a bit overpriced.

Hotel Feature Tip : Phu Chaisai has even numbers of Thai and foreign guests. We booked through Agoda but kept an eye on a special package from the hotel's website. The place is isolated so you will rely on their food, which is super yummy. 1-3 nights are ideal.

Phu Chaisai Hotel Chiang Rai. Beautiful resort, impeccable and immediate service, clean rooms, and breakfast included.

none

Stayed in Nov of 08. Beautiful, isolated resort about 40 minutes north of Chiang Rai. Two distinct lodging areas- rooms on one hill and suites on another hill about 1 kilo away. We were upgraded to a suite overlooking tea plantations and bamboo forests with a private plunge pool, that could easily sleep 3 to 4 people. We did not see the rooms. We happened to be there when a conference was taking place so they had an incredible asian / western breakfast buffet. We also had lunch there. The Thai menu was very reasonable while the western menu was more expensive. It is very isolated - closet village 6 kilos with a small town about 15 kilos away. A new lodge is being constructed on the hillside opposite of the rooms which (for us) takes away some of the natural beauty of the area.

Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : Definitely need a car or choose as a stop over on a tour. We used as a stop over between Chiang Rai, Mae Salang, and Mae Sai.

Superbly designed rooms and wonderfully positioned private villas. Excellent staff. Well located restaurant. Excellent value breakfast.

Somewhat worn out furniture. The whole place could do with a decorative overhaul.

On arrival we were disappointed to find extensive construction work still going on at a site next door. On the bright side we were instantly upgraded to a private villa on the basis of our 4 nights booking. Throughout our stay the staff could not do enough to accommodate us. If we wanted a getaway we would go again, but only after all the construction work is finished (in about 3 months' time?)

Great Location for weekend away; good air and great view

Too expensive for what it is!

Great view and air quality but the service is just ok. The room looks nice but it's not convenient and seems over price to me. There's no UBC in room. the hot water didn't work properly. The food was good. Overall is good resort for weekend away trip.

Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : Tea plantation in Doi Maesalong
