Good service, nice reception, friendly people, clean rooms

Standard rooms will need renovation

Staying in the Wiang Inn Hotel last time 15 years ago I expected a bit "worn out" situation; but the hotel is very well maintained, except the Standard Rooms; they are still in an acceptable condition, but in a few month or one year some decoration has to be fixed. The food (especially the lunch buffet) is good and very reasonable priced. The location, a few minutes walk to the Night Market, is excellent. Recommendable, if the price will not be increased.

Nightlife Tip : Night Market around the corner

Location

Dated, internet only in the lobby

I chose this hotel primarily for its location. It is close to all of the massage salons, shopping, restaurants, and the night market. Since I was a solo traveler, the hotel could not accommodate any tours for me. I was able to book across the street. The breakfast was buffet, and the staff was quite kind. If I return to Chiang Rai, I will probably choose a different hotel.

Travel tip : Location is their best attribute.

Price and central location

Internet connection was very slow

The hotel matched expectations of being a comfortable, functional business class hotel. Quality of rooms and hotel good. Central location and overall I think it's offers good value.

The location. Poolarea. Breakfast, Staff

A bit warn. Small rooms

Super location. Night Bazaar and down town Chiang Rai is just around the corner. Car rental across the street. The room are a bit small and if you are unlycky you can get an "old" room. Lots to choose from at breakfast. Even "omelette chef".

Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : Doi Tung, Doi mae salong, Pu chi fah, white temple

Great breakfast and lunch buffets, on site karaoke with private rooms, very friendly staff, and arguably the nicest place in town. This hotel is RIGHT in the middle of everything. The night bazaar is a 5-minute walk away and restaurants abound.

After seeking assistance with an international collect call from 3 different people at the service counter, I was still charged 800 Baht ($24 USD) for my call upon checkout. When I contested it, a manager told me that if I didn't pay, the staff that was on duty at the time would have to cover it out of their own pockets. This was a despicable method for forcing me to pay. We argued about it for 20 minutes before I finally threw my hands up and paid 75% of the cost. I wasn't entirely convinced she was going to charge the staff. The manager wasn't even sure how to advise me to make the call. I asked how she could expect her staff to know. The procedure was vaguely described in the guest services guide, but I couldn't win the argument even on this basis. Advertised "panoramic views" were a bit weak.

Would I stay again? YES! But I would be very careful about risking these types of charges. It's fortunate that I was only on the phone for 10 minutes. Had it been a more involved conversation, the charge could have run into thousands of baht.

Hotel Feature Tip : Try out the karaoke club. Also, breakfast came with my lodging, and it was very good every day. Try the lunch, too. It's a great buffet and priced right.

Nicely appointed hotel. Looks classy. Restaurant serves a good breakfast buffet and room service meals were good. Rooms are well equipped and everything seems to work well. Beds are comfortable, not too hard. Location is good.

A little expensive but quite acceptable for a nice hotel.

If you like smaller Thai cities with lots of attractions and amenities close by then Chiang Rai should be on your list of destinations - and the Wiang Inn should definitely be one hotel to consider staying at while there. Perhaps a little expensive by some standards but for what you get for your money it seems worth it. My Thai wife and I found it to be a good deal from Agoda. The hotel is clean and quiet. The staff seems helpful but I don't think many could speak much English. Rooms are clean with everything the traveler requires. The room service meals were surprisingly good so we can only assume the restaurant is a good one. They do serve a good breakfast buffet. The location was good for us with lots of shops and restaurants nearby. The hotel does have good shuttle van service to the airport for 150 bht so be sure to use it rather than pay 400 bht for a taxi ride which the hotel also arranges. I booked the taxi to take us to the airport without realizing there was an airport shuttle van and when my wife brought this to their attention at the front desk they quickly gave me my taxi money back. I wasn't impressed they didn't mention the shuttle in the first place but was happy they didn't make a fuss over returning my taxi money.

Very central, courteous staff

Older hotel, smaller bathroom, rooms always smell of smoke

Hotel is right in the middle of Chiang Rai while most others are out of the city and difficult to get to. Popular with tours. Hotel is now older and quite dated

Clean efficient & friendly hotel in good location. Plenty of car parking spaces. Best breakfast in Chiang Rai. Cocktail bar with live music.

Pool area not very inviting, could do with flowers or trees for shade & improve the ambiance.

Stayed at this hotel before and will return as I always enjoy my visits here.

Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : Doi Tung Gardens are a wonderful day out. About 40km north of Chiang Rai

Very central: standard comfort of good class hotel (large rooms, proper bathroom, cable TV, porters, massage parlour(?!). Not expensive.

Breakfast a bit mean. An egg chef the first day, only a plate of cooling fried eggs the second. Very slightly shabby.

Perfectly adequate, not especially expensive, slightly impersonal hotel, very close to centre. The rooms are fine with cable TV, decent bathrooms. Staff friendly. Only ate breakfast in the restaurant which was not one of the high spots of the stay. One day a chef preparing omelettes and varieties of eggs, the next just a plae of colling eggs and no sign of egg chef. Still, would I stay there again? Yes.

A hotel suitable for a charge.

The room is old and narrow. The breakfast of a restaurant has few kinds.

The card key of the room was not able to use twice.I will stay at other hotels, when visiting Chiang Rai next time.

Travel tip : The Japanese restaurant, the pizza house, and the massage were near this hotel.

Comfortable room. Close to night bazaar. Lovely breakfast.

Outdoor light shining directly in our window.

My son and I enjoyed our stay in our clean and comfortable room. The convenience of being so close to the night bazaar was an added plus. Although we had some initial difficulty communicating with the staff about some extra purchases we wanted from the wet bar, this was resolved quickly and without much fuss. I certainly would consider staying here again.

Comfortable room, large selection for breakfast buffet, courteous staff, close to night market

Older style interior (very clean, appropriate for older style hotel, but not up to customary standards of modern 4 star tourist hotel), very limited internet access. May not be the place to stay if needing to frequently keep track of work while on holiday

Made the reservation at the last minute to join friends already traveling to Chiang Rai. Found the central Chiang Rai location to be much better than alternative resort type properties away from the city, especially as we were not there to play golf. Being close to the night market for souvenir shopping was a definite plus.

Nightlife Tip : Very convenient to night market. For a taste of good food - family style servings of finger foods with sticky rice - and performance of local culture, have dinner one night at Sa-bang-nga (spell??). Mae Fah Luang gardens at Doi Tong mountatin park are a must see.

Location is excellent. Buffet breakfast pretty good too.

Could do with new carpets in the rooms.

For the money, this really is the best deal in town. The reception staff seemed to lack the Thai smile but the rest of the staff were great. The Philippine duo act in the evening are OK in the reception bar. Plenty of car parking if you have your own transport. However, the one thing that annoyed me was the lack of an internet connection in the room... in this class of hotel in this day and age, I find it astonishing that a four star hotel has no Internet connectivity in the rooms.

Restaurant Tip : Don't eat from the Sushi bar in the Night Bazaar... I got food poisoning and was in bed for two days vomiting.

Location.

Old facility, brightness of the room.

The hotel is located near from the night bazaar. It is 5 min walk distance. Breakfast was standard class. Hotel staff are kind and good service level.

Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : Night Bazaar is very fun.
