Good breakfast. Clean and tidy room. Helpful staff. The hotel looked in need of some modernisation. The rooms needed freshening up. Painting the wall again would make a difference.The TV reception was intermittent with poor sound quality. We stayed just one night here but overall it was ok. The buffet breakfast was good.

some of the rooms need to be remodeled, no hot water during the day. Exercise room needs new equipment I have stayed at the methavalai a number of times and for the price that you can book it for on agoda it is a good deal and is the best 3 star hotel I have stayed in in Thailand.
It is a favorite with Thai and tourist alike and is best suited for familys.
The rooms are bit tired though last time a stayed in a remodeled room with new air-con.
The breakfast buffet in the A.M. is well prepared and there are a number of restaurants within walking distance
Travel tip : try the seafood restaurants at the end of the beach road were the fishing boats tie up ( About a 15 minuet walk along the beach road )

Clean rooms, near restaurants outside the hotel so have more options other than hotel food. Housekeeping bangs at room door at 8:30 in the morning for room clean up. Why don't they check with front desk if occupants are in the room before they start disturbing people so early in the morning. Food service in the restaurants is slow, had to wait for 45 minutes for simple meals to come and if there's a slight variation in the one indicated in the menu, staff don't know/understand how to adjust (for eg. ordering a grilled ham and cheese sandwich(as per the menu) but without the ham didn't come out as ordered, they still had the ham inside and it wasn't properly grilled, it was a sorry looking limp white bread). I guess for the price it's a good enough hotel had clean rooms but the food service wasn't up to par.Service was slow in all the restaurants which was a bit inconvenient if you have hungry kids with you. Housekeeping waking you up at 8:30 in the morning to ask if they can clean your room is unacceptable. Some of the staff don't speak English so was quite a struggle to make them understand what you want. Check-out was also not very efficient, had to wait 25 minutes for our bill to be processed. We booked 3 rooms in the hotel but 2 of them didn't have efficient air-conditioning - too hot in the room and in 1 room, it got too cold so we kept on adjusting the thermostat.

great beach access, excellent breakfast, large rooms, private and spacious balcony lack luster food, too many people selling things on the beach - all of the time, while clean, the beach was not as clean as it could be. Music was loud and late as our room was directly above the stage. Bedding was of medium quality. The rooms are large and well appointed. Basically the section of the hotel that we stayed in was well designed from an architectural perspective. We had lots of privacy and looked out toward the beach. The beach was really easy to get to and from, with deck chairs and umbrellas. Pools were well designed with several child friendly areas and play zones.
Shopping Tip : There are many shops, convenience stores and cheap food stalls near the hotel.

Very nice staff, good location. I found no clear weaknesses of this hotel. Clean and nice hotel. The staff was very friendly. I forgot 500 bath in my jeans when sending my clothes for laundry, and they came back with the money. Food is good, and the pools are great. The hotel is also close to many European restaurants. The rooms are big, and there was a great view from my balcony. I can really recommend this to everyone. Also a good hotel for children.

good facilities Quite a big hotel, comparing to other little resorts in nearby area. Lots of facilities. The pool is especially good. There are 2 pools actually, one of htme is accessible from some guest rooms. Environment is excellent for relax, good sunbath and swimming. Pool is large enough for serious swimmers.
Nightlife Tip : not much nightlife at all. If you must have nightlife/disco, avoid going to ChaAm

Hotel is close to the beach, but the sea water was smelly. It is a cosy, typical vacation hotel. Unfortunately the pool was in renovation, otherwise it would be a nice place to stay for max. 2 days.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : There's not much to do in Cha-am. We were there to cover a long auto route from Bangkok to Koh Chang. One night is ok.

The beach in front of the hotel should be a peaceful area free from moving shops. It is difficult to have a quite minute before a new merchant try to sell you another thing you do not need.

Good situated just beside beach! There is nothing poor, except miss of DVD / WLAN in rooms! Even very good stay for family with children! One of the best places on Cha-Am beach you will find.
Travel tip : Visit the wonderful seafood restaurants in the small harbor (approx. 2 Km). Many small restaurants on the beach-street offer you not expensive lunch/dinner. Nice sandy beach (water in summertime not really refreshing), sometimes too much walking sellers of clothes. Enjoy this place all around and take motorbike.

We would definitely go to Mathavalai again. There were GREAT pools for the kids and adults. There was a huge variety of ages and nationalities, and all seemed very comfortable and content. Staff was very attentive, even let us check in a few hours early! We loved it.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : We rented bicycles for 20 Baht/hour, even with our two young kids (ages 2 and 4) and rode all along the beach road. We loved it so much, we rented them again to go to the night market! Definitely a highlight.
