Very helpful and positive staff. Apparently good management. Excellent service and food. You could even get news papers from home on the same day!
The three or four cats begging for food at the tables.
The hotel is well managed, with friendly staff. Pool area is very nice and we enjoyed the food at the beach restaurant so much that we saw no reason to go to town to eat. We did go to town, but saw it as a very touristy place with ugly shops, and not as pleasant as out at this hotel.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : Go to Similan for snorkeling. Unfortunately closed during rainy season.

About 1km from Nang Thong beach = 15 minute walk (not really that bad).
Not cheap but still good value.
We were recommended by a Thai friend to stay at Khao Lak Palm Beach and we weren't disappointing. The resort is set in a cliff in a more private part of Khao Lak just south of Nang Thong beach. Because of this the beach was mostly empty we could enjoy the beautiful waters privately. The place had all the services we could possibly ask for and the staff were very helpful. The room rates aren't the cheapest in Khao Lak but well worth it.
Hotel Feature Tip : You can't walk into Nang Thong via the beach from Palm Beach resort, you have to take the road.

The ants at breakfast were bad however everthing else was perfect.
