It's about 20 min walk from shops and restaurants, but we rented a motorbike (200 baht/day). It's so easy to drive in Khao lak, because there's just one road to everywhere. Beautiful hotel, we recommend this place!

We stayed at the Khao Lak Bayfront Hotel in Jan 09 and found the hotel clean and a reasonable distance from the Town Center (a nice walk along the beach) approx 25 mins. The rooms located to internet bookings are the further back with not such a nice outlook to enter but still quite a nice view over the garden from the balcony. The staff could be a bit friendlier and breakfast could be improved but overall not a bad stay for he cost. We stayed at the Khao Lak Bayfront Hotel in Jan 09 and found the hotel clean and a reasonable distance from the own center (about 25 mins walk along the beach). Staff were reasonably helpful and breakfast was fine but could be improved. The beach in this location is really nice. Over not a bad stay for the price.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : We found the shopping much better in the mornings and really enjoyed the raft trip down the river and hiring a motor bike to check out nearby beaches.

Very relaxing, friendly staff, nothing was to much bother. Great massages. Very Quiet. Beds a bit hard but you soon get used to them. I really enjoyed my stay here, I was looking for a quiet location with no hassles and a place I could just relax and chill out. Found the in house restaurant to be good, the staff helpful and the rooms a real delight. I would definitely recommend this to travelers looking to get away from the world for a while. Staff also very obliging when some of my washing was delayed, sent it back home to Australia for me (Thanks guys).
Nightlife Tip : There isn't much but who cares.
