Everything we'd hoped for and more
Peaceful, luxurious, breakfast
9.7
We had the most wonderful few days at the Riverside Resort and wished we could have stayed longer. Breakfast was served overlooking the beautiful gardens and the a la carte menu was superb. It was so peaceful but only a few minutes from the beach where there were wonderful little bars and restaurants serving great food cooked to order and fantastic value for money. The bedroom was beautifully appointed with a fantastic view overlooking the gardens with the sea in the background. We will definitely go back.

One of the best hotels I've stayed in Thailand. Great tranquil location, yet in close proximity of the Khao Lak town. Very nice beach. Hotel is relatively small, but it's actually a nice thing, because it never gets too crowded. They provide transfer from Phuket airport which is a fair deal, I guess. Everything was smooth and I can't remember anything negative about my stay.

Modern clean and very well managed
Modern, clean, quiet location, easy reach of beach and local restaurants & shops.

My wife and I recently stayed at the Riverside Hotel and were impressed by much of what we saw.
The hotel is owned and run by two Swiss gentlemen, Marcus and Bruno and you'd have to go a very long way to find two more hard working and hands on owners than these two. From crack of dawn and breakfast and cleaning the pool to evening time and entertaining guests Marcus and Bruno are on the case and aware of and on top of everything happening.
The hotel is fairly new, modern and clean and the rooms, 27 in total, very attractive and spacious. Breakfast is served on the patio each day and brought to your table rather than being buffet style. We didn't take any other meals at the hotel although it did appear that light lunches were available and if you booked in advance dinner was also offered.
When booking we booked through Agoda but also had email conversations with Riverside to discuss a few particular needs that we had and the email communication was very efficient and effective and gave us a feeling of confidence in the hotel before arriving.
From the hotel you can walk to the beach in 5 or so minutes and to the touristy village centre and restaurants / shops in 10 or so minutes so we found the location to be good and we hired a 'twist-&-go' motor scooter and found travelling around very convenient from the hotel. The hotel is in a very quite location and there is certainly no noise to worry about.
The hotel has a spa facility that offers jacuzzi, steam room, sauna and massage. My wife twice used the massage facilities and enjoyed it both times.
During our stay in Khao Lak we stayed at the Riverside on two separate occasions. Our first room was as we expected and wanted with a bath, my wife prefers a bath to a shower. On our second visit we were in a different room which had no bath. We were moved to a room with a bath a couple of days later which was not a problem but if a bath is needed you should communicate this in advance

Fabulous rooms, very Quiet and clean. suit couples
8.3
Sea view but does not have direct access to the beach though it is a very short walk. Great Rooms and very quiet but ambiance can be a little clinical.
Hotel Feature Tip:
Choose sea view rooms

Great place to get away
friendly staff, great location, excellent rooms, good value

best place we stayed at during our 3 week vacation in Thailand. 2 minute walk to beach and close to many beach side restaurants. Woke up refreshed every morningand had an excellent breakfast. Khao Lak is great location for travelers that want to get away front the crowds. Relaxing, romantic and refreshing.

cleanliness, beautiful rooms, beautiful pool and lovely staff

this hotel is so clean and tranquil it would be incredibly difficult not to relax. bruno, one of the owners, is so helpful and couldn't do enough for his guests. all the staff are extreemly accommodating without being intrusive. i had the luxury of going in low season and had the pool all to myself. i particularly looked forward to teh breakfast but all the food they serve is excellent - i would definitely go back.

Tiny bath and smelly pillows!
5.7
We stayed at the Khao Lak Riverside Resort and Spa in March 2012. We found the hotel extremely difficult to find with no signs anywhere so we had to call reception numerous times to get directions. When we arrived we thought the hotel looked nice and the garden and surroundings were very well maintained. When we laid down on the extra hard bed, we found that one of the pillows smelt very damp as if it had not been dried properly so we asked housekeeping to change it, which they did straight away. The next morning, one of the owners approached us asking what the issue was so we said that one of the pillows smelt to which he replied 'no they didn't, we tested it on another guest and they said it was fine'. We were basically accused of being liars so obviously we will not be returning!

Just what we needed
Beautiful two year old boutique hotel
10
after spending a month on the road in se asia we booked a week to relax at the riverside resort before heading home. it was perfect. one of the owners was on site at all times and ensured that our needs were met with grace and humour. they are rightly proud of what they have achieved and it showed in the service we were offered.
breakfast was fresh. not a buffet like larger hotels and is well worth including.
it was a pleasure to watch both marcus and bruno patiently and quietly training their staff to deliver their high expectations in service. personal but not intrusive.
the hotel grounds are immaculate and intimately set away from other resorts and shops. a 200m stroll along the beach gets you to these however, the best dining we had was at the hotel and was a reasonably priced fine dining experience.
overall our stay had the feel of a private bed and breakfast. a very refreshing and honest change from the large chain hotels.
ideal for romantic or relaxing get-aways.
we will be back but will probably have to book well in advance when other travellers find out how refreshingly nice this resort is.
Restaurant Tip:
even though the resort was only offering breakfast daily you can enjoy private fine dining in the evening if prearranged during the day. we did this twice and both agreed that it was the best meals and service we had in five weeks throughout se asia.

a lovely hotel with wonderful staff
the staff were really friendly and helpful, the rooms were large, spotless and the view was unbeatable. good sized pool, nice and quiet and a great location, 2 mins walk to the beach.

i cannot recommend the khao lak riverside & spa enough, it's a fantastic hotel. easy reach of the main resort area but on a nice, quiet road, it was perfect. relaxing, quiet and friendly. the breakfast it great, the staff couldn't do enough to help. our rooms were lovely, nice and big, great amenities and the view over the pool, gardens and out to the sea was sublime. sitting on your balcony watching the sun set over the palm trees was a pleasure enjoyed every evening. we look forward to returning next year.
Restaurant Tip:
avoid the sawasdee restaurant on the way up to the main road, the food is not great (although portions were massive) and the service is rubbish. almost all the food we ate in a numbers of different restaurants was very good, but stand outs were inders chulla for one of the best curries i've had in a long time, mali for the seafood, aroy on the beach for the spicy papaya salad (we found it hard to get anything very spicy but this was nice and hot) and the honey pork skewers from the stall in the market.
